Thank you saves a bit of work. I like the above quote. I'm still unable to see them - I get a message "Windows cannot complete the extraction. The destination file could not be created." It's a zip file so you may not have the extraction bit on your computer. This is what Yvonne had in the zip file: Meant to post this some time ago re the next Bonhams sale on the 10th of December 2014. Bonhams catalogue is now on line and includes, D Palmers 'Portative Pipe Organ' and 10 gold, silver and platinum J/T albums. My contribution. I/A painting from Blackpool Art College lot 229. Amusingly photographed completely the wrong way up. Means something quite different. Lot 230 five more letters in no particular order of appearance. Letter 1. Two sides. With envelope dated 24th June 1968 but stamped on the back the 26th of June 1968. There is a cigarette burn on the back of the envelope that matches the cigarette burn on the letter inside. Sent from Burghley Road, Kentish Town. I/A says he must go on another song writing spree tomorrow and he's starting another painting. He tells of a drugged youth threatening him with a broken glass and says that Glenn banged the youth on the head with a bottle. He writes that the band is on 'Top Gear' on Sunday afternoon July 28th. Radio 1. He asks me to listen out. He tells me the 'Richard Harris's record is very nice (Mac Arthur Park) and he expects that I will like it too. He says he'd like to think he could make a record like that when he's about 30. Letter 2. No envelope, from Luton. 4 sides. Emotional love letter with life changing promises included. Drawing of a heart that fills most of one page. I/A writes that his room is unbearably cold since I left even though he keeps the fire on all the time, too cold to do anything but huddle over it. He says the record comes out on the 16th of Feb and its called (ironically) Sunshine Day. One of Micks. I/A thinks it's more commercial than the songs he writes. He says he gets up at 8 and doesn't get to bed before 1 or 2 am. Letter 3. From Hampstead. Dated 18th June 1968. Address on letter Burghley Road, Kentish Town. I/A writes that he did reductions on a couple of tracks, then explains that this means mixing parts afterwards to get the right sound and balance. He writes he's fairly pleased with the results. He says they should get some air play soon as a lot of people have written to John Peel asking for them to be on the show. He tells me he's bought a space suit to wear at The Windsor Jazz Festival. (Don't recall a space suit. Only some memorable performances, ground breaking performance from Jethro Tull, back stage I/A and I chatting to Ginger Baker and Eric Clapton. Front stage walking with Ian amongst crowds of hippies) He writes he is wearing dark blue overalls on stage at the moment which he thinks are extremely interesting. He tells me they have quite a few mid-week dates but otherwise nothing much else has happened, just a succession of playing, reading, making coffee, laughs with Jeff and lots of sleeping on his own. Letter 4. Two pages. From St Annes On Sea. Dated 11th September 1967. I am in London. I/A starts the letter with 'I am sorry to hear about people taking LSD in your place, but glad that it has put me off'. He writes that people who need stuff like that must be deficient in something the intelligent thinking person has naturally. He goes on to say that what they have to say is ridiculed when you observe the effect it has on them when they are high. (Over the years much appreciated this mature, caring, effective response to what was a vulnerable girl) Letter 5. One and a half pages. Dated 27th May 1968 postmark Hampstead. address 28 Burghley Road, Kentish Town. I/A writes that Saturday night in Bradford was a lousy gig but, Sunday they were invited to Coventry to replace Jeff Beck which turned out alright. Wednesday they are in Marlow at the Hubb Club and Ian hopes I will drift down (I did) . He says I wrote that I was in Reeding but presumes that is a spelling mistake. Thursday they are in Hull. Friday the Marquee (which I get to attend too) He says he will take it easy for the next couple of days and write songs. Mentions the Windsor Jazz Blues Festival. Thats it for now. Christmas is looming and so it the birth of our fifth grandchild. Wonderful XX

I'm trying to think. I did a few Marquee gigs and the memories just meld into one. I remember one very brilliant performance from Ian there. Just remember thinking what a fantastic performer he was. We travelled from Blackpool and back in the yellow transit van no idea how many times. One lasting memory is that Ian was talking to me intimately after a gig at the marquee one time and an audience member cut right inbetween us to tell Ian how great he was. I took a back step out of the way and felt quite cut off, really dismissd. Ian was really good about this in all ways but for me it was difficult.

Also at Bonhams with Yvonne's letters www.bonhams.com/auctions/21948/lot/231/Jethro Tull: David Palmer's portative pipe organ by Mander of London, 1970s, ivory plaque to left of ivory keyboard reading, Specifically Built for David Palmer of Jethro Tull MANDER London, back also with ivory plaque, MANDER London, removable clear panel to front, 43½ inches high x 22 inches deep x 42½ inches wide (110.5 x 56 x 108cm) FOOTNOTES This instrument, the property of Dee Palmer - longtime arranger and keyboardist with Jethro Tull - is the larger of the two portative organs she played in concert and in recording with the group during the 1970's. She commissioned and had them built by the celebrated and long-established London company, Mander Organs. (The smaller organ, with only a two octave range, was sold at auction in the 1980s and, for a long time, was exhibited at the Hard Rock Cafe in NYC.) The design concept, though not a copy, is based on a portable organ built in 1684 by Georg Haas of Bautzen in Eastern Germany. The organ has a mechanical action and an electric blower (240 volts) with the wind pressure regulated by a schwimmer or "jelly bag". It has two stops, 4ft and 2ft, and a compass of three and a half octaves from F2 to C6 and is wired internally for stage amplification. There are two mic holders and Left and Right XLR outputs. The case is double glazed (to insulate the instrument from any sound intrusion on stage). The front panel is easily removed for live, acoustic performance. The instrument can be heard on the Jethro Tull albums 'Songs From The Wood', 'Heavy Horses', 'Bursting Out', 'Live At Madison Square Garden' and 'Stormwatch', and is featured in innumerable videos of live concert performances by Jethro Tull. Ф This lot contains or is made of ivory. The United States Government has banned the import of any ivory into the USA.

Glad you checked out the on line Bonhams catalogue Maddogfagin. My contact there is really great and told me of a very nice lunch had with D Palmer recently. Palmer's portative pipe organ looks very interesting don't you think?, I might go and check it out at the Bonhams pre sale preview even though it's out of my price range, something my son in law and grandson would love . I can only dream. I like the pink record covers above. Aeroplane originally the B side to 'Blues for the 18th' . Jethro Tulls first demo. I kept one of the five copies made for years. It did not have a pink cover though, just plain white. I am no doubt repeating myself, happens more and more these days. There are 13 words begining with P in this post.
