A very sad loss indeed. 'The Young Ones' was one of the best comedy shows ever.
RIP Rik

Mayall recorded the track, in which he reads the iconic speech from Shakespeare's Henry V over a rousing chanted chorus, ahead of the 2010 World Cup. It failed to chart during the South African championship. However, the self-styled "charts hijacker" Jon Morter, who got Rage Against The Machine's song Killing in the Name Of to knock X Factor winner Joe McElderry off the top spot at Christmas in 2009, is determined to give Noble England the same treatment in tribute to Mayall.
Unlike in 2010, there is no official World Cup 2014 anthem after Gary Barlow's Greatest Day was quietly dropped by the FA. Monty Python have released an updated version of their Life of Brian song, Always Look on the Bright Side of Life, as an unofficial contender.
Morter told The Evening Standard: “It would be a great thing for Rik’s memory. He was a comedy legend. Rage Against The Machine was more of a protest whereas this campaign seems to be a way of displaying respect. It’s a vehicle for a lot of people to say something and it would be a great accolade.
"It’s a cruel irony that on the eve of the World Cup we have lost him. It’s now time for everyone to wake up to this fantastic song."
