LIVE: Ian Anderson @ the Palace Theatre, 11/2/14 Pictures/more: www.nippertown.com/2014/11/13/live-ian-anderson-the-palace-theatre-11214/#more-124123Review and photographs by Andrzej Pilarczyk At Albany’s Palace Theatre, the first hour or so of the concert was an audio-visual event with some theatrical props embellishing the songs, past and present. Most of the songs featured were from Ian Anderson’s new album, Homo Erraticus, but the set closed out with a couple of seasoned nuggets from the rich Jethro Tull catalog, for example, a brilliant, full-length rendition of “Thick as a Brick.” The second set did away with the stage props and presented the classic Tull music front and center. Anderson was full of vim and vinegar jumping around all over the stage with his flute. The second vocalist, Ryan O’Donnell, shared vocal duties with Anderson, sounding a lot like him in tone and inflections, but while O’Donnell added his vocals to some well-known numbers from the Jethro Tull cannon, Anderson feverishly played his flute behind him at those times only to bring down the flute from his lips and sing at decisive moments of the song-at-hand’s structure. There was no doubt who the lead vocalist was – it was Ian Anderson, who at 67, was laying down the Jethro Tull sound song-for-song in all the group’s glory.

That's one heck of a fine concert venue - wish there were more like them, especially in the UK

The Germanics on their Tull site were SO sure Ian would respect them with full H.E. and that circumcision was just for Americans !

So they got one more HE song than Americanskies ( After These Wars) and it cost them TAAB ! And they got Too Old to R and R as H.E. relief ? Hmmmmm.....I would not have predicted that...but what do I know...I'm the man who had a tantrum when so many great and indispensible H.E. songs were tossed.

Ian's words, in this regard, I think they are entirely justified. We think only about how many people he meets in a single day. Huge, then Ian has every right to have his privacy. This year, I have been to three of his concerts, on one occasion I observed while doing autographs, the second I exchanged some words about Christmas concert, I didn't want absolutely disturbing, when he replied, I came to mention a small round of applause, and he smiled candidly. For me this was much.

As always it's the minority that spoil things for others - you know the type; those who want multiple copies of albums signed, for example, which must really p1ss of IA and the band.

Not all fans deserve an autograph. Ian himself says, noting to see his autographs sold on E Bay. Maybe I will appear ' too shy, but I would presume to ask for one for example after a chat, after "broke the ice" but suddenly, no, I couldn't ask him.

When you consider some of these stories you can understand Ian's concerns, I mean Mark Chapman started by simply seeking an autograph. Being a simple fan is one thing, being obsessed to the point of stalking is worrying beyond belief.

It should also be said that it is too easy to get close to Ian, sometimes. I myself have been able to access the check sound many times without being "intercepted".
