Jethro Tull's Ian Anderson Announces Tour and Prog God Award - 08/16/2013 www.antimusic.com/news/13/August/16Jethro_Tulls_Ian_Anderson_Announces_Tour_and_Prog_God_Award.shtmlJethro Tull frontman Ian Anderson have announced that he will be embarking on a UK tour next Spring and also responded to news that he will be receiving the Prog God Award at this year's Progressive Music Awards. The tour will be kicking off on April 28th in 28th Brighton at the Dome and will be concluding with two nights at the 02 Shepherds Bush Empire in London on May 24th and 25th. The Progressive Music Awards will be taking place on September 3rd in London and are spearheaded by Day in Rock news partner Prog Magazine. Here is what Anderson had to say about his Prog God Award honor and addressed a controversial past honor he received, "After winning the Grammy for best 'Hard Rock/Metal" album back in 1988, this seems like an opportunity to justify that strange and misplaced accolade with a new album to celebrate the more forceful, full-on rock credentials which are found in many of my songs over the last 45 years. "It's not an end to the acoustic and gentler moments but more of an emphasis on the louder aggressive flute style which marked me out from the earliest days of Jethro Tull." He adds, "The innocent voyage of restless souls: that's prog rock. Sometimes bombastic, self-indulgent and worse, it is also an honest, gut-felt reaction to the often simplistic and repetitive nature of much of pop and rock. "It is, indeed, an honour to receive this illustrious Prog award and dwell in such lofty heights amongst the good and the great of the last forty-plus years. I remain very happy to inhabit the progressive rock world, as both performer and listener. "And where else could a self-taught, mediocre but extremely loud flute player make a decent living? Not in country and western, I would suppose. But, hey: if the boots fit and the buckskin-fringed coyote crooner calls, then count me in Cowboy! Brokeback Mountain could never sound sweeter." Prog Magazine Editor Jerry Ewing had this to say, "For 45 years Ian has been playing live, and I don't think I have ever seen two shows the same! It doesn't matter if its Jethro Tull or Ian on his own – its always magnificent, groundbreaking and captivating. Without him rock would be a very different and lesser place, so to announce him as our Prog God at the same time as he announces a UK tour seems hugely fitting." Anderson will be touring in support of his forthcoming album, which he describes as a 'Folk-Prog-Metal' concept album. The album will be released next year and fans can expect to hear tracks from the effort along with Jethro Tull classics on the tour. www.progrockmag.com/www.progrockmag.com/news/ian-anderson-is-prog-god-2013/Maybe this news deserves its own thread...

Nearly got run down by this bus in Cochabamba, Bolivia last week. I reckon the driver knows who the keyboard player will be on the next tour...

Graham and tootull thanks for this news so cool. It can be understood with this news that the band will continue with the same name and the same members? I've been waiting for any new info before making a judgement as to the next tour and album. It appears as though unless someone was playing tricks with the promotional department, that Jethro Tull's Ian Anderson will remain. I understand the disappointment that some may have. However, if in 1973 someone said that Ian Anderson was doing another concept album in the year 2014, I would have said "pass that joint please!" Damn, this is the most incredible news of all time!Jethro Tull's Ian Anderson announces UK tour, including Southampton date 3:20pm Tuesday 30th July 2013 in Music www.basingstokegazette.co.uk/leisure/music/10580418.Jethro_Tull_s_Ian_Anderson_announces_UK_tour__including_Southampton_date/ LEGENDARY Prog Rock icon Ian Anderson has announced a 2014 UK tour including an appearance in Southampton. The forthcoming record release will feature heavier, less acoustic guitar sounds and more of Anderson’s trademark flute. He said: “After winning the Grammy for best Hard Rock/Metal album back in 1988, this seems like an opportunity to justify that strange and misplaced accolade with a new album to celebrate the more forceful, full-on rock credentials which are found in many of my songs over the last 45 years.

Jim's right ( see, I'm not ONLY Ray's 'yes-man'. ) The only thing better than the amazing TAAB 2 and subsequent gigantic tour is the fact that yet another original album and dedicated tour are on the horizon...screw the joint, Jim, pass the youth serum !

LOL!~ I was talking to the guy in '73 that said Ian Anderson would create concept albums in 2014. After he passed the joint, we watched ballerinas, owls, rabbits, bees, newts, kangaroos, hippos, and The Devil!

ive read the Prog interview and it makes very interesting reading. one of the side panels seems to nail the idea that JT is a goner though. On this tack its funny Neil Young never attracted so much criticism when he left musicians out in the cold or worked and recorded with others. I will definitely buy the new album, I wonder if ryan o'd will feature on any vocals? i'm in two minds about seeing IA live next year however, soley on this vocals issue.

Regards IA's vocal issues. If you watch the TV video from Iceland that someone has kindly added, it is interesting to see that the band & Ryan O'Donnell seem to be helping him out more and more in the TAAB concerts. Maybe that is the way ahead, just get help when the range is too high or whatever. I am amazed he can sing and perform so well for a few hours night after night. He also sounds better on the TAAB2 songs as I guess the songs are more suited to his voice he has now..

Snaffler. I am struggling to find the links but they are on this website. I just went the search page when you enter this site and typed Ian Anderson Iceland and it took me to the correct page. There are a number of very good quality clips each with various sections of the concert.

I'm waiting for a reply to an email I've sent to The Sage Gateshead. The Ian Anderson Concert doesn't appear on there website as I want to book tickets through them instead of the greedy pigs on the Tull site who want to charge £2.40 booking fee plus £2.20 postage taking two £30.00 tickets to £67.00. The last time I booked direct from The Sage there was NO booking fee and NO charge for postage. Now that's what I call "Customer Friendly".

Finally booked my ticket for Oxford (4th May) today. Means I'll not be able to go away for the bank holiday as I had been thinking of doing - the sacrifices we make, eh?! Surprisingly, managed to get a front row seat (albeit only a few seats in from the far right) - first time I think I've ever been front row at any concert ever!
