Okay... Patti! Here it is... Let's Rock! Unfortunately I couldn't create the thread containing all of the words you suggested, so I had to change it a little bit... Patti suggested this: "Understanding the St Cleve Mindset and the Many Facets of English Eccentricity." Hope you like it Patti... You can always change it if you don't...

That's fine by me I see you've chosen the fluffy duck dot to dot as a start I was going to say that there's many examples of stories and thoughts that don't necessarily travel well into the 21st century. One thing that never changes is crappy stories in local newspapers with dodgy grammar and bad spelling. My local paper has some classics - they don't edit anything either so the "stories from the courts" has unnecessary details like; "he proceeded to wash his hands with the pink towel hanging in the bathroom" Google funny newspaper stories to see similar. However as a serious exercise in understanding the St Cleve paper we will take a proper look at some of the stories and start with page one. from an excellent web page which allows magnification of all the stories www.world-enlightenment.com/THICKASABRICK/TAAB/ARTICLES/BRICK01.HTMEvery local paper from then and now will always have a story about a UFO sighting - usually seen by the local "skywatcher" unemployed, lives with his mother and on route back from the pub or a local policeman on night shift who's bored out his head and full of caffeine.

Yes start with the beginning! I dig that about you! I have always thought of the U.F.O. as some kind of lamp, but I'm probably not the only one that sees it like that... So that's kind of oblivious... The sighting is reported to be two minutes past eleven... Very precise... So the first thing he apparently did after sighting the U.F.O. was to look at his watch... and take a picture... or take a picture, and look at the watch?? Another thing that comes to mind... did any of this ever happen? The answer of course is no... and the whole newspaper is a spoof anyway... and are there any other jokes hidden in this article? The text sais that the "Ship in the sky" is reproduced above, when it's clearly reproduced below... and what about the East Anglia Divisional Headquarters? Any joke in that?

"Still funny, too true?" But why is it funny... can someone enlighten me on this one?? Describing humour like this is always difficult. It's a fictional review by Julian Stone-Mason that almost mimics every review point of a Tull album. Subtle humour or hit you over the head with a brick humour depending on your Tull point of view or your sense of humour. It nails the typical review of Thick as a Brick before the album is released. All review bases covered in an Ian Anderson way. It's up to you to get it or not.

I have just read that Ian probably is a far descendant of Denmark! My native country!! We may even be related!! ... Take a look at this statement: "We’re all from somewhere else, in my case probably Danish Vikings, around the 12th century on my father’s side." - Ian Anderson... Well, but then again... in my case it's probable Scottish clan members, around the 12th century on my mother's side... Damn! It's just not my day...

I have always wanted to understand the more subtle comic in the Thick As A Brick news paper, but it's just not that easy for me to understand... but thank you Sir TooTull...

As far as stock market report in Hebrew...I guess if anyone is licensed to make fun of Jewish stinginess/attention to money, it's a Scotsman as they get as much stick for penny-pinching as my people....thing is...it's probably more accurate to say that Jews in England and the USA are involved in the wheeling and dealings and profiteerings of the stock market...the Hebrew speaking jews of israel have bigger fish to fry.... a sort of socialist-military economy where money goes to defense, not 'banker bets banker wins' investments....but it's still funny !
