Another Harry's Bar:
Wet wind on the sidewalk, I'm starin' at the rain Walkin' up the street, yeah and walkin' down again And my feet are tired and my brain is numb See that broken neon sign sayin', hey, in you come
Got the scent of stale beer hangin', hangin' 'round my head Old dog in the corner sleepin' like he could be dead A book of matches and a, and a full ashtray Cigarette left smokin' its life away
Another Harry's bar or that's the tale they tell But Harry's long gone now and the customers as well Me and the dog and the ghost of Harry will make this world turn right It'll all turn right
God's tears on the sidewalk, it's the mother of all rain But in the thick blue haze of Harry's, you will feel no pain And you will feel no soft hand slippin' on your knee You don't have to pay for memories, they will all come free
It's another Harry's bar or that's the tale they tell But Harry's long gone now and the customers as well Me and the dog and the ghost of Harry will make this world turn right It'll all turn right, it'll all turn right
Now when Harry was a young man, Harry was so debonair He walked a bouncy step in his shiny shoes And when Harry was a young man, well, Harry could walk on air He mixed a mean cocktail and he talked you through the late news You want to hear some great news? Harry's still here
Wet wind on the sidewalk, I'm still starin' at the rain Walkin' up the street, now walkin' down again And my feet are tired and my brain is numb See that broken neon sign sayin', hey, in you come
Another Harry's bar or that's the tale they tell But Harry's long gone now and the customers as well Me and the dog and the ghost of Harry will make this world turn right I'll make this world turn right
Another Harry's bar, hmm And another Harry's bar And another, and another Harry's bar

I know there are Harry's bars in at least Paris, Vienna and Venice...they go for a WWII era, 'Hemingwayesque' mood...I think the original one, in Paris, was an authentic American journalist hangout for awhile. I've only been in the one in Venice...an absolute, tourist trap dump...think 'Hard Rock Cafe' for the super-annuated.

Black Satin Dancer:
Come, let me play with you, black satin dancer In all your giving, given is the answer Tearing life from limb and looking sweeter Than the brightest flower in my garden
Begging your pardon, shedding right unreason Over sensation, fly the fleeting seasons Thin wind whispering on broken mandolin Bending the minutes, the hours ever turning
On that old gold story of mercy Desperate breathing, tongue, nipple teasing Your fast river flowing, your Northern fire fed Come, black satin dancer, come softly to bed
Black satin dancer, given is the answer Tearing life from limb and looking sweeter Than the brightest flower in my garden
Come, let me play with you, come black satin dancer In all your giving, given is the answer Your fast river flowing, your northern fire fed Come, black satin dancer, come softly to bed

Strange Avenues:
Strange avenues where you lose all sense of direction and everywhere is Main Street in the winter sun. The wino sleeps --- cold coat lined with he money section. Looking like a a record cover from 1971.
And here am I --- warm feet and a limo waiting. Shall I make us both feel good? And would a dollar do? But in your streets, I have no credit rating and it might not take a lot to be alone just like you.
Heading up and out now, from your rock island. Really good to have had you here with me. And somewhere in the crowd I think I hear a young girl whisper ``Are you ever lonely, just like me?''

Slow Marching Band:
Would you join a slow marching band? And take pleasure in your leaving as the ferry sails and tears are dried and cows come home at evening.
Could you get behind a slow marching band? And join together in the passing of all we shared through yesterdays in sorrows neverlasting.
Take a hand and take a bow. You played for me; that's all for now, oh, and never mind the words: just hum along and keep on going.
Walk on slowly don't look behind you. Don't say goodbye, love. I won't remind you.
Dream of me as the nights draw cold still marking time through Winter. You paid the piper and called the tune and you marched the band away.
Take a hand and take a bow. You played for me; that's all for now, oh, and never mind the words: just hum along and keep on going.
Walk on slowly don't look behind you. Don't say goodbye, love. I won't remind you. Walk on slowly don't look behind you. Don't say goodbye, love. I won't remind you.

Move On Alone:
I feel so sad now that she's gone, I've been loving that woman too long. There is no place to go because my friends have all moved, Got nothing but sit in the sun. Got tired of crying, guess I'll move on alone.
My bed is so empty and my heart is grown cold, guess I'll just die before I grow old. The place is untidy, that's `cos I ain't done my dirt, I just grown tired of thinking. Got tired of crying, guess I'll move on alone.

The Story of The Hare Who Lost His Spectacles:
This is the story of the hare who lost his spectacles. Owl loved to rest quietly whilst no one was watching. sitting on a Fence one day, he was surprised when suddenly a kangaroo ran close By. Now this may not seem strange, but when owl overheard kangaroo whisper To no one in particular, ``the hare has lost his spectacles,'' well, he Began to wonder. Presently, the moon appeared from behind a cloud and there, lying on The grass was hare. in the stream that flowed by the grass -- a Newt. and sitting astride a twig of a bush -- a bee. Ostensibly motionless, the hare was trembling with excitement, for Without his spectacles he was completely helpless. where were his Spectacles? could someone have stolen them? had he mislaid them? what Was he to do? Bee wanted to help, and thinking he had the answer began: ``you Probably ate them thinking they were a carrot.'' ``no!'' interrupted owl, who was wise. ``i have good eye-sight, insight, And foresight. how could an intelligent hare make such a silly Mistake? '' but all this time, owl had been sitting on the fence, Scowling! Kangaroo were hopping mad at this sort of talk. she thought herself Far superior in intelligence to the others. she was their leader; Their guru. she had the answer: ``hare, you must go in search of the Optician.'' But then she realized that hare was completely helpless without his Spectacles. and so, kangaroo loudly proclaimed, ``i can't send hare in Search of anything!'' ``you can guru, you can!'' shouted newt. ``you can send him with owl.'' But owl had gone to sleep. newt knew too much to be stopped by so Small a problem -- ``you can take him in your pouch.'' but alas, hare Was much too big to fit into kangaroo's pouch. All this time, it had been quite plain to hare that the others knew Nothing about spectacles. As for all their tempting ideas, well hare didn't care. The lost spectacles were his own affair. And after all, hare did have a spare a-pair. A-pair.

Sanctuary:
Dear uncle sold her into, into the purest kind of slavery. Hood-eyed little middlemen profited from damaged goods along the way. Good angels brought her back to a last Nepal summer. Debased, hollow-faced, a smile might become her. Now she's cosied up, cosied up and comforted in the warm flush of September. Gone before winter. Wondering as to might-have-beens. Somebody's daughter in sanctuary, waiting.
Seen through softer cage of kindness, far and further still away, from time-warp Victorian zoos where staring ice cream gameboys play. Big paws, worn claws and swishing tails. More damaged goods in the market sales. Too proud for anger, too late for hate: resigned in dignity. Gone before winter. Purring might-have-beens. Somebody's kitten in sanctuary, waiting.
Somebody near you in sanctuary, waiting.

Hardly needing to carry the find-your-way lamp down to the river. And tonight flies a better moon. Sad water buffalo lie fast near the shallows, a splash revealing the fly-catching fishes. Dark Gods silently watching. And tonight flies a better moon. I guess you've known lovers here, compliant in passion; softly laid in the old reed bed, harshly lit in the noon sun. And tonight flies a better moon. Now cloaked in this milky light, new as the virgin dawn, shrouded sweetly in all kinds of mystery, you turn, smile and then are gone. And tonight flies a better moon. And tonight flies a better moon. And tonight flies a better moon.

Yes, I agree, TooTull... It's Ian at his best. Secret Language is probably my favourite Ian Anderson album next to Walk Into Light. Every Anderson album has a few+ songs/tunes that I identified with right away. Sadly that hasn't happened with Homo Erraticus. My escape from Homo Erraticus has been listening to the beautiful Divinities in the garden. This has been very relaxing. Giving the vocals a rest.

I just don't like it... why say you're sorry, when you're not...?

All in all a brilliant album... and here comes the last and sacred words... and... AAUGH! The number 2??

Panama freighter:
Night close in on a shanty town. Panama freighter wearing rusty brown. She sails tomorrow and she's homeward bound. Head up on a lumpy sea.
I'm not the only lonely planet rider In this one horse town, I'm thinking. And I won't over-rate or patronize you.
I know we're as different as chalk and cheese; As black hole winters and salad days And I wouldn't like your mother much anyway.
But it's not her I'm taking home with me.
Don't intend to dress you in silver threads Like some trophy in sublime seclusion. Won't try to educate or civilize you.
Night close in on a shanty town. Panama freighter wearing rusty brown. She sails tomorrow and she's homeward bound And you're bound to come home with me. On the panama freighter with me.

TIGER, tiger, burning bright In the forests of the night, What immortal hand or eye Could frame thy fearful symmetry? In what distant deeps or skies Burnt the fire of thine eyes? On what wings dare he aspire? What the hand dare seize the fire? And what shoulder and what art Could twist the sinews of thy heart? And when thy heart began to beat, What dread hand and what dread feet? What the hammer? what the chain? In what furnace was thy brain? What the anvil? What dread grasp Dare its deadly terrors clasp? When the stars threw down their spears, And water'd heaven with their tears, Did He smile His work to see? Did He who made the lamb make thee? Tiger, tiger, burning bright In the forests of the night, What immortal hand or eye Dare frame thy fearful symmetry?
- William Blake

Jethro Tull - Broadford Bazaar
By Siniša Klarica Lyrics:
Dirty white caravans down our road, sailing. Vivas, Cortinas, weaving in their wake. With hot, red-faced drivers, horns flattened, fists whaling, Putting trust in blind corners as they overtake.
And it's ``All come willing now, Spend a shilling now, Stack up the back of your new motor-car.'' There's home-dyed woolens, and wee plastic (Cuillins?) (blessed?) (Cuchulains?) [Cuchulain == mythical Irish hero --- wee plastic Cuchulains?]
The day of the Broadford Bazaar.
Out of the north, no oil-rigs are drifting. And jobs for the many are down to the few. Blue-bottle choppers, they visit no longer. Like flies to the jampots, they were just passing through.
And it's ``All come willing now, Spend a shilling now, Stack up the back of your new motor-car'' Where once stood oil-rigs so phallic There's only swear-words in Gaelic To say at the Broadford bazaar.
All kinds of people come down for the opening. Crofters and cottiers, white (wild?) settlers galore. [Crofter == farmer renting land] [Cottier == farmer renting land] And up on the hill, there's an old sheep that's dying, But it had two new lambs born just a fortnight before.
And it's ``All come willing now, Spend a shilling now, Stack up the back of your new motor-car.'' We'll take pounds, francs and dollars from the well-heeled, And stamps from the Green Shield. The day of the Broadford Bazaar.
I think never played live
