I have to say this rates as a very lower case disapointment to me only because it does not come close to matching my hoped for delusion. This delusion entailed the inclusion of all guest performers over the somewhat recent years, and all material, some probably forgotten by a few by now, that has been played in that time period, which would require 2 cd's. For instance the version of King Henrys Madrigal with the second of the violin visitors, forget her name, available on that acoustic disc, is a notably stand out track. My thinking was to have Lucia back for Kashmir, the violist and drummer for Change of Horses which, happily, I am certain will be included and by about the second listen I felt this has a chance to crack Ian's top ten masterpieces, its definitely in the game. And Anoushka and her buddies for Celtic Cradle, sort of Change of Horses without lyrics. I forget what that other violin player had, the 3rd in line, but a song of her own that was really good. For me such a record would rival my favorites I am sure, but there again I am a much bigger fan of their post Roots recordings and performances than many, believing it easily stands alongside their legendary stuff, but also understanding where some perceive it to be a watered down version of the younger version. Year 44 and fighting fit is what I see, I even believe Doane stands alongside any Tull drummer, again, easily. And Mark Mondesir and Dave Mattacks are in the conversation!

Kind of a counterpoint to myself is that in the past 15 or 20 years, which have allegedly been so much weaker for various reasons, mostly Ians voice, I have still found the band so marvelously entertaining. But I guess in fairness there is no way I have walked out of a Tull show with the level of awe I did between 72 and 9, but its very close.

I read a quote from him recently, it's probably well known, I can't remember the exact words but it goes along the lines of;
"Whatever Jethro Tull is to the fans"

I share Ray's fears that lots of the amazing, adventurous, masterpiece level Tull material that we heard live over the past decade or more will slip through the cracks and not get recorded. Kashmir and America both deserve quality recordings as do countless other solo and collaborative pieces with the strung out girls ( Lucia, Anna, Ann, Anoushka) and I'm probably missing a guest star or two....Tea w/princess with and without words, Change of Horses, a few other songs and instrumentals...which will be on the new album?

1) PS to add to my earlier review of the Calgary concert: a thought was going through my head minutes before the show began, of "please please please play FATMAN; just look at the dozens of fat blobs trying to move into their seats, this is disgusting!" 2) there will never be another Jethro Tull or Ian Anderson album released, because Ian's obsessed with the morbid subject of religion. Game over.

Game over. I'm not sure if he was ever that obsessed with religion apart from in the early days when he was rebelling against a probably fairly strict religious upbringing. He is often quoted now as being spiritual and that he enjoys churches for that purpose however not for joining.
