Spoke to my friend Kathy a couple of weeks ago and I Just thought some of you might be interested in her diary dates that record in some detail some of the early John Evans Blues Band gigs that we attended in 1966.
Queens in Clevelys 17th February 1966
Gig in Kirkham 19th February 1966
Pre Rag Ball 21st Fefruary 1966 (something to do with the art college)
and the three photos I submitted earlier in my topic EARLY J.E.B.B. PHOTOS are from a gig at The Lytham Rugby Club on February the 26th 1966.
The Blackpool Grammer school gig was the first gig we saw. Sometime in January 1966.
I had honestly forgotten how far back in time we went.

Have a look at The Ministry of Information (if indeed you haven't already done so) especially at 1965-7 page at www.ministry-of-information.co.uk/setlist/pre.htmAll fascinating stuff. Got any more photos ?

Linked to the ministry of information. Very interesting, thank you. I wish I had also kept a diary of those years and taken an awful lot more photos when I had the chance. What a shame such golden missed opportunities. Kath is coming to see me next week so I have texted her to see if she can dig out any other info about other gigs we went to together. Many of the later gigs it was just myself and the boys and I don't have any record of any dates or venues. I 'remember' a lot of the more notorious gigs listed, such as the Blackpool Boys Grammar School gig (don't remember the bright red jump suit) think that would have put me off. The 'Arts Ball' at the Tower Ball room. The Twisted Wheel in Manchester and Blackpool and the Marquee on several occasions, details here and there but much has become a blur. I/A letters are very informative and if I have kept them all in the right envelopes, the date stamps and information about gigs might add some interesting history.
As for the picture of the Queens. Wonderful. It was there where I/A and I first got together so the memory is still crystal clear. A very funny night. The audience were in fancy dress for some reason so I was wearing a bright red nightdress - as you do - I/A told me later that he thought I looked like the kind of girl who worked in Woolworths so zoomed over to check me out - Barrie Barlow also zoomed over and as Ian attempted to sit down to introduce himself, Barrie pulled the chair out from underneath him so Ian sat on the floor instead. It was totally hilarious. You couldn't forget such a memorable introduction - really - could you? The John Evans Blues Band were great fun.
Yes I do have some more photos which I am working on posting. Thanks for the interest.

Funny that the Twisted Wheel gets a mention 7 February 2012 Twisted Wheel DJ fights to save 'iconic' Manchester clubA DJ is fighting to save the former home of an "iconic" Manchester club from being destroyed.
The building which housed soul club The Twisted Wheel in the 1960s has been acquired by developers Olympian Homes.
It is considering a number of options for the site, including the building of a 330-room hotel, which could mean losing the basement club.
Twisted Wheel DJ Pete Roberts said the loss would be akin to the demolition of the original Cavern club in Liverpool.
The Twisted Wheel was one of Manchester's most important clubs in the 1960s, hosting live shows by black American soul artists such as Ike and Tina Turner, Ben E King and Edwin Starr before it closed in 1971.More at www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-manchester-16926139

Klooks Kleek was a jazz and rhythm n’ blues club at the Railway Hotel, West Hampstead, North West London. Named after a 1956 album by jazz drummer Kenny Clarke entitled Klook’s Clique (Savoy Records 12006), the club opened on 11 January 1961 with special guest Don Rendell (tenor sax) and closed nine years later on 28 January 1970 after a session by drummer Keef Hartley’s group. ( From wikipedia) JT played there on 5 November, 1968

Saturday 13 February 1965. The Blades played one of their first gigs at the Bispham Tennis Club St Valentines Eve Dance held at the St Pauls Church Hall in Blackpool. www.ministry-of-information.co.uk/setlist/pre.htmI understand that this is the church hall and if someone, hopefully elmsliegirl, can confirm this, it is an image of one of the first pre Tull venues.

Just saw this post. I didn't ever see them play as the Blades so can't confirm the above church hall venue.
The 2nd memorable gig I attended at the Queens in Cleveleys. The 20's archtecture is significant to me. My Grandmas house (nearbyish) which I lived in for a while was built at the same time and looked like a smaller version of the same building.
