According to that last interview he says; " While it's not TAAB3 there's a bit of a back story to it which does tie in with (the) Gerald Bostock and some of the characters.." I reckon it's theme will be St Cleve and some of it's inhabitants particularly the local rock band that performs at the Dirty Duck apologies,I keep jumping from St Cleve to The League of Gentleman via Python

I.A. : “Yes. I’ve written about 85 percent of a new album back in January, and made some demos in March, so that is scheduled to be recorded at the end of this year, which will then take us back out (touring) at the end of April 2014 through probably the first half of 2015. So that’s all set in stone really, with a lengthy UK tour booked and tickets already on sale for a show featuring the new album with a second half featuring generic Jethro Tull material.”

New album and tour featuring same followed by Tull set sounds amazing. Hope there's some surprises in part 2 and hope the 'Hard, Folk, progressive' rock means sounds like 'Jump Start' not 'Hunt by Numbers'.

I'm quite looking forward to this; while I love Ian's acoustic songs and will miss that aspect, I'm also looking forward to great dollops of flute over the band cooking on the album! Let's have some raunchy Hammond organ solos, too!

Can I say I like the accordion, sounded beautiful live. The accordion haunted my youth. It's never sounded finer than in an Ian Anderson tune.

Of course it should be left off the heavy metal flute album.

I agree the Accordian has had its fair share on TAAB2.
The Hammond would be a much more satisfying sound.
It sounds like the following shows are going to have a full half featuring songs from the new album? I think half new material and half Tull classics would make some very agreeable shows.

Tend to agree with you on this one Kai. If, as promised, the new album is going to be heavier with much less acoustic material, then the Hammond would be far better. Can't honestly see the accordion as being suitable for a "heavy rock" song - but you never know .....

I once saw a small clip somewhere of the members of the Foo Fighters playing an Accordian with the band live. I believe Brian Jones played the instrument once or twice on a Stones album. Of course there are Irish Punk bands like Flogging Molly. EDIT: Found this Wikipedia list which is most likely incomplete en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_popular_music_acts_that_incorporate_the_accordion

The first time I ever saw Jethro Tull live was on Nov 7, 1971. I was a Sunday and the concert was in the afternoon. The opening song was My God. Tull had been my very group since Stand Up came out in 1969. I remember begging my brother to take me to the concert. The show was 2 hours away in Greenville, NC and I was 15 years old. It was one of the best days I can ever remember. Hard to believe that was 42 years ago today. I would love to see Ian and the band play the new album on Nov 7, 2014, but any day will be just fine.

Happy Tull Anniversary....it's days like that when we remember how lucky we are to be Tull fans....most of my friend's favorite bands from that era can be pretty much described as ' 13 horses that also ran ( also ran)'....

same age Metta, same taste in music and probably some similar type memories. Patti Similar memories? I don’t doubt that a bit. It’s funny, I have 22 year old intern. He was amazed by how vivid my memories were of a day 42 years ago. When he started working in our office 3 years ago, he had never heard of Jethro Tull. Well, he can’t say that anymore. Bring on 2014 and new music! This has been a tough year.

I don't care about Gerald Bostonovitch, I just want to hear a band rock out. Leave the recycling to the big bin trucks, music called "new" aught to be new.
I did not attend the Calgary performance, so I can only rate it a 5/10 because apparently they did show up. Fair?

Concerts are not cheap and compared to 1975 prices, they are quite expensive. I would rather hear groups that interest me in more than just music. Sometimes it just feels good. If the Gerald Bostock analogy was not interesting, I might feel the same. To someone over 50, it should. The lyrics of TAAB 2 are certainly current and also very thought provoking. That's the key for me. It has relevance...

I am intrigued as the possibilities of next year's album, which I decipher from the cosmic field is probably to be built using a more elaborate list of implements than a previous hiking expedition.

I too am an accordion fan from way back, having lived a while in Ontario where there is this outrageous enthusiasm for Oktoberfest. Those big halls full of polka bands, dancing, food and drink can't be beat.

As is more than likely with this band and composer that we all know and love and that we've all decided to follow over the years, we've got to expect the unexpected. With all the rumours of "TAAB3" or "Son of Passion Play", I can't really see it myself at the moment. With a re-jigged Passion Play and Shateau D'Isaster on the horizon, I reckon it will be something intriguingly new. However . . . . .

The accordion was really popular and lots of houses including mine had one (kept mainly under the bed) where I lived - Glasgow not Kazakhstan. Mr GB on FB is a tease; "New news coming this weekend on the Tull/IA website. Anderson reveals some of the new album work and my part in its undoubtedly excellent outcome. Visit www.Jethrotull.com soon!"
