Martin Barre & Dan Crisp play the first encore as a duo at their gig at Greystones, Sheffield 8th Oct 2013.
Dan on vox & guitar, Mart on guitar - the rest of the band took a well-earned breather backstage for this one. Enjoy. www.youtube.com/watch?v=SDxcyjD94go

Dan and Martin do work well together and hopefully that's a pointer for the future perhaps ? Although some songs work best on a large stage, this one does very well indeed in an intimate setting. I remember seeing the '91 Catfish Rising performance and the crowd seemed a little let down during this number. The soft, bluesy style that Martin uses here is something I would enjoy in this type venue. Great sound quality too. Thanks for the cool video Sir John.

This sounds like the perfect setting for this song. Cheers. John

I was there at this venue, for this number - the venue was indeed intimate - and to come out for the first encore and perform as a duo was a bold move - and one that paid off handsomely. Mart was flawless in his interpretation - Dan sang it beutifully and emotively - and with the accomp being just their two guitars, nowt else, the song got the plaintive and longing feel that the song merited. Hats off to Dan for playing the harmony guitar part along wi' Mart so well, too. The quick runs that form part of the instru melody were no mean feat on an acoustic! Grand stuff!

It comes over rather well in that intimate setting and with just the two of them playing. Bodes well for the future.

Got to be honest i think most Tull albums after ROCK ISLAND are pretty much dead wood/lame uninspiring . Same as IA's solo stuff since also, although i do like WITL. So for Martin to ressurect a limp song and make it special is a very bold move which he pulled off i.m.o. I would say IA is very lucky to have met MB or Tull could have been a very pedestrian band like what we have now unfortunately.

If the current tour is pedestrian....lead me to the crosswalks ! But I do agree that the Martin/ Crisp version of Still Loving You has something more soulful and memorable than the version on Catfish and that there are probably a ton of songs that would yield similar results with Martin unleashed and Dan Crisp....uh...I guess...uninhibited by Ian comparisions.

This is the refined version of the set list. First half: Murphy's Paw Minstrel In The Gallery Cry You A Song Watch Your Step (Bobby Parker) After You, After Me Steal Your Heart Away (Bobby Parker) Thick As A Brick (excerpt - The Poet And The Painter) Steal Home Rock Me Baby (B.B. King) Second half: Thorazine Shuffle (Gov't Mule) Song For Jeffrey Lament Of The Spalpeen/Martin's Jig/Hymn 43 Crossroads Sugar Babe (Buster Brown) Overlord (Pat O'May) Fat Man Teacher A New Day Yesterday Still Loving You Tonight Locomotive Breath

That Crisp/Barre version is the first time I've been very impressed with what Martin's up to. There are loads of Tull songs that would suit a strong, soulful vocalist like Dan and blend with the soulful guitarist.

Crosswalks. Ace. Between Blandford Street and Mars. Goes to show it depends from what perspective one views the take on Still Loving You Tonight. I have been well impressed with much I have heard from this band, including alot of the somewhat dodgy video from Manchester last spring I think, though it could have been longer ago. I found it to be the most awkward re interpretation of the catlogue I have yet seen. I found Crisp's take amateurish, very possibly it was under rehearsed, and even more likely, its just one mans opinion. Also Martin I would swear was playing out of tune, I think it needed the bedrock of your average ace Tull rhythm section, and of course the balls of Ian Anderson. Never was too keen on that record anyway, I like it just fine,(and usually applaud any of Ian's leanings toward the blues or acoustic/rural music) occasionally really like the one that's considered a weak sister of Budapest, with that apparently excellent but quite crazy guy Foss Patterson sitting in on keyboards, I think on that track only. Odd I can remember his name and not the name of the song. The one with the child of the 90's in there. I have noticed it worked well live, pretty sure it was not played in the USA. Also the Beefheartesque Thinking Round Corners is cool, a certain oddment. Lets bathe in malt whiskey. Frank Mead along with Martin remains the happening dude in that band. From what I have seen their strengths are in numbers of a flavor like Song For Jeffrey, Minstrel, To Cry You a Song. Real good stuff.

White Innocence the song...but wasn't the token crazy man Rabbit Bundrick ? A man too crazy for even the Who? God knows how that guy got in Tull's orbit or how it played out.
