I'm really a big fan of him. I LOVE his music and I think he was one of the most intelligent man the world ever had.
Personal favourites are "One Size Fits All", "You Are What You Is", "Hot Rats", "Them Or Us", "We're Only In It For The Money" but there are many many others.
What do you think of him?

Me...relatively pro-Zappa...not a fanatic and don't know more than a teeny percentage of his prodigious output but understand the fanatacism he has inspired in his fans and get the brainy, cynical vibe...however, I'm afraid to say...over the years (51 of em soon) I have had a more than coincidental pattern of Zappa fanantic acquaintances turn out to be not slightly eccentric, extra smart and kinda cool....like I thought at first...but actually, deeply troubled sociopaths who evolved from trusty friends to creepy characters who I hope to run into less than more, later that same life....not a overall generalization....just something worth reporting. I also have some friends, Zappa nuts, who did not fit into the Kafkaesque pattern described! Anyway....I don't eat yellow snow and I do throw a mean tarot. When I travelled frequently in Eastern Europe.... late 70's and early 80's...well before the wall fell...I was constantly accosted by folks, especially Czech and Polish, who demanded translation and clarification help on Zappa lyrics ( Dylan and Lou Reed, too...much easier) ....they were often disappointed that, though American, long-haired and very rock n roll, I was not a Zappa professor...ah the good old days...

Never really got into Frank Zappa although I've various songs scattered through my cd/vinyl collection. I should really investigate more - can you recomend one or two albums?

Hi Pentagruel. Into most things these days. Hendrix, Cream, Peter Green's Fleetwood Mac, Pink Floyd, CSN&Y, Bruce Hornsby, Marc Cohn, Tom Petty, Kate Bush, Dire Straits, Fairport and err . . . . Jethro Tull. Seriously, most music really.

Overnight Sensation, Fillmore West ( or is it east?) and Another Band from LA are great entry level Zappa...not his jazzy, snazzy avant garde far-outest but good songs withy Flo and Eddie fronting a talent overload...Joes Garage also good entry if Flo and Eddie give you a headache!

The ones who suggested Steelmonkey are good ones (even if I'm not a big fan of Fillmore East), but you could get offended by the lyrics if you're too sensible (in case of "Just Another Band From LA" and "Fillmore East --- 1971"). My personal favourites are "One-Size Fits All", "Joe's Garage" and "You Are what You Is". But if you're into the jazzy stuff you should definitely check "The Grand Wazoo", "Waka/Jawaka" and "Hot Rats". Let me know

The Real Frank Zappa Book was the best "autobiography" I ever read. I think he was more truthful about himself and his life while keeping his sense of humor. I bought Joe's Garage in high school simply because of the album cover and found him to be the most refreshing artist who literally did what HE wanted and not what the record company wanted. I can't really say that for any other recording artist. Plus, he incorporated just about every style of music into his artistry. And yes, my Father hated it; "First, Jethro Troll, then The Rolling Dirtballs, now THIS guy." Hahahahaha! Oh, the good old days, when we drove our parents crazy with our music. Thank God that my six year old daughter loves The Beatles and not the trash that they put out today. :-)
