Gonna knock out a few things due to time constraints and perennial laziness. Ian at Ravinia in any guise well worthwhile. One of the finer outdoor venues in the United States. Presuming I have been relieved of my long time post down at the financial morass of course I would be present without question, and likely at any within 500 miles, or in San Francisco just because...too. Seems over half of his shows in the past ten years, and seen most of them, someone comes up with a freebie for me. On the other hand will hardly be heartbroken if I miss it, I have lived really fat at the trough of deep entertainments. A New Day, while I am guessing I was one of the first 20 to 100 subscribers to, is not something I have afforded myself in about ten years. However how David Rees comes up with fresh informations in this age I would have to mark as very impressive. Alvin Lee RIP. Such a healthy looking guy, belied his years. Reminds me of my, left to pick one and one only, favorite drummer of all time, Tony Williams, goin in for some basic gall bladder operation 10 to 15 yrs ago and...RIP, I know some legal stuff still goes on over that, it was botched, massive loss. I won't claim to be any kind of massive fan of Alvin Lee, burnin player, lost interest to me by the time of that track and album so many seem to be referencing, to me one of the classic rock radio signposts, not a good thing. But I did like them in their earlier blusier format somewhat, and without a doubt, like every single other act I am aware of at Woodstock, absolutely burned the house down, jaw dropping. Sly Stone was another one, not a huge fan, but at Woodstock, not a bit short of fantastic. Or Joan Baez....everybody was great. The great ones, especially the Who and Jimi were astonishing. Cannot help but think LSD had ALOT to do with the success of that weekend. RIP Alvin Lee, I suspect in recent years you had gone back to the blues, I would like to hear it, you could play man.

But Ray, don't forget to think on it from other perspective...it's a summer night, say July 22nd in Chcago...you could go to a local, apparently nice, outdoor venue and see one of your favorite musicians and lifelong inspirations, a certain Ian Anderson who comes to your area code to sell tickets for his performance of newish and classic material...you could really study the nuances of the performance and gaze upon this man who as a composer, lyricist and man has meant so much to you for the bulk of your life....or you could do something else that night....cubs game? read? TV/ hangout? post on Tull website......well......and if it's just ticket money I'll mail you a check in a hot second.

Bernie starting to lose count the number of times you have extended your TullAid hand to me during my non stop downturn, I think you know the way I have long felt about you .One way or another I will likely see it....AGAIN. Not to mention, I think I saw it listed at Deer Creek down in INDY which, given a tiny nudge to the upside, I likely also will see, precisely 200 miles from where I sit, a fact I know well. That place from 89 on was the last place outdoors in the USA, actually designed for music, that the Dead were allowed to play at, before one of their final performances, the one where Garcia was given a death threat, the first set was performed with the lights on, (cheering from the morons from MTV and the mall and Metallica shows who had infiltrated the scene as over the walls broken walls came about 500 of their non paying "brothers" ) and topped off with a "Deadhead" riot against the police for which I hope they were able to get some quality shots in on those projectile throwing, scene and indeed Jerry killing louts. I think more should be made of one truly egregious error, that of Patti so rarely seeing them, certainly not on this tour. I really believe if IA was truly apprised of this contributor to his art he would see to it that she saw at least one show in style. I think I have a real solid bead on what of his fanbase he finds appealing, and I have zero doubt that he would love Patti...as we do.

You're right about Patti requiring live gig intervention...funny how miles are telescoped over there in the old world and our beloved bros and sisters flinch at even teeny trips to get to gigs...Jeez...I'm gonna probably add LA two days befoe SF...400 miles away...the round trip mileage would allow the brits to follow Tull/Ian for whole tours.
I think Garcia opened with 'Dire Wolf' the night of the death threat...'don't murder me' true?

I think Garcia opened with 'Dire Wolf' the night of the death threat...'don't murder me' true? To knowledge I can recall of no show where they opened with Dire Wolf, checked to be sure and it was the third song played that night. I was not there, saw the first few years down there, 89 thru 91, even contracting my sole experience with poison ivy while trying to maintain my moderate work out schedule on tour, had gone to do my sit ups in the forest area so as not to disturb anyone with my awful sounds, and apparently that was poison ivy i laid myself down in. Good venue, very good by the standards of what they were allowed to play in 89 and after, re no more Alpine, Greek, Red Rocks, etc. Although that was aptly described as the tour from Hell in 95 for the Dead, it still was a kind enough crowd that one Chicago cop said he would rather work ten Grateful Dead shows than one Chicago Bears game. However it is the tour where a bunch of people got crushed, some to death, by a falling balcony at some campsite in the St Louis area that I suspect way too many people were on, the exit ramp in DC that wasn't, (exit here Deadheads or something)that was a route to a prison term for some, (2000 imprisoned Deadheads on mandatory sentencing policy at its apex)for the doubtlessly high crime of being in possession of visionary sheets, and of course culminating in all The Gate Crashers Suck stickers, or Die Yuppie Die or something like that, and of course with Senor Garcia checking out after that last show in Chicago, which I did see. Not many career long highlights to be found in 95, but the reading of So Many Roads that night, positively cathartic, and an exquisite closing statement, even shut the yuppies up, they could tell something holy was going on. Otherwise had it high points, but in the main a case of Dead by numbers as had become common in those later years, largely I am sure from losing that connection to the full audience. Like Ian the Dead does not like no attention paying mf's.

Would have to check setlist...can't get deadbase at work...but if Weir and Welnick got songs, maybe Jerry's first vocal was Dire Wolf?

But I think more likely is it was Dire Wolf's turn in the rotation, alot of songs were a once every four shows proposition, I suspect Dire Wolf was more on the order of once every six to eight shows, but...maybe Bernie. Without stopping to think about it I suspect alot of Dead songs touch on the subject of dying, certainly many touch on the weather which was often used to good effect.

Would have to check setlist...can't get deadbase at work...but if Weir and Welnick got songs, maybe Jerry's first vocal was Dire Wolf? Here Comes Sunshine and Walkin Blues were the first two. The first being sort of a group sing of course, although to the extent there is a lead singer it is Jerry, I seem to recall it was at Vince's suggestion that it was brought back, not that I recall it ever working that well, ditto with the long hoped for Unbroken Chain. Of course Walkin Blues is Bob time. Regardless of whether it was played with an intent specific to that night, (really would not have been their style, to deal in specifics)I am sure if one listens to the audience tape of that night there will be a notable crowd reaction as he sings those lines, though not sure to what extent the crowd was apprised of the situation, but with the lights still being on and lots of folks being loosely connected to someone or everyone in the organization I suspect the word was out in some quarters. And occasionally there is a misinterpretation, thinking specifically of He's Gone, long perceived to be about someone dying, likely Neal Casady. It is in fact about Mickey Hart's Dad, one time financial manager, absconding with their cash. That's why Mickey left the band 71-4, no one wanted him to, but doubtless a massive psychological burden. pretty much un related, but Bob goes off quality on the yappers and cell phone people at Sweetwater, pretty much home plate, in Marin the other nite, likely a minor news blurb in the Bay Area, and easily accessed on the net, its story at least. Cut short his acoustic first set in mid song, and called out the MF's who were still yapping away in the electric set. Way to be Bobby, standing up the assh**e mentality in whatever guise it wears around the world often appears to be the only answer, but yes, you could get hurt.

Good...with Ian and Weir on the frontlines of swatting photographers and shutting up cell phone addicts...there is some hope....saw Echo and the Bunnymen a couple years ago and noticed nonstop cell phone and bar talk chatter throughout full peformance of 'Ocean rain'....their Sgt Pepper...and sadly remembered hearing same music performed to pin drop respectful silence in 1986.

Excellent concert in Buenos Aires on Sunday night. Differences from the first UK concerts in 2012 - Show seemed a lot "tighter" and better organised than before. - No doctors check at the end of TAAB side 1 - No squeezy thing - John O'Hara only played keyboards. - Encore was Locomotive Breath only. - Band and crowd seemed to enjoy themselves. The Teatro Gran Rex was full - I guess around 4 thousand people? (PS If anyone can tell me how you add more than 1 photo, I will gladly add more). Attachments:

Thanks for enticing review...just makes me more excited for my sloppy seconds in less than 3 months. I remember a couple 'Change of Horses' from first time around and I liked the keyboards in place of accordian....

The other thing to add was that Ryan O'Donnell seemed much more confident and he has been given more to do. He is certainly a good addition to the show. There is a little more theatre at the start of the show during the stage preparation/clean up.. will not spoil it by giving away the details though. I think the keyboards alone are fine on a change of horses and the other songs..
