Excellent, great timing mate. My Missus is out and the little one's in bed so I'll tune in to that.

My apologies but I forgot to post that the BBC 6 Gideon Coe show mentioned above is on 11 September and I'm pretty certain that if you miss it you'll be able to listen to it via the "listen to it again" thingy on the web site. Put the omission down to the fact I had just got up and was still feeling knackered and not looking forward to work last night - either that or old age and the lack of brain cells.

There is also a "listen again" facility on their web site.

Planet Rock DAB are celebrating 10 years of broadcasting and they have a retrospective series of programmes on at the moment. This Sunday (18 Jan 09) Ian Anderson is hosting the programme which starts at 6pm. www.planetrock.com/I don't think their "play it again" feature is working on their site at the moment. Their new webmasters aren't updating the site, apart from the music news bit, and the schedules are those from December.

IA’s programme on Planet Rock yesterday (18 January) proved to contain quite an eclectic music mix. It was the third of four programmes celebrating the station’s 10th birthday and had IA as guest DJ presenting quite a diverse music selection which was as follows.
The Darkness - I Believe In A Thing Called Love Velvet Revolver - Slither Yes - Roundabout Jethro Tull - Nothing Is Easy (from the Isle of Wight) Cream - I’m So Glad (from the Royal Albert Hall 2005) Pink Floyd - Comfortably Numb (from Live 8) Jimi Hendrix - Hey Joe Genesis - Land Of Confusion Blackmore’s Night - Street Of Dreams
It would be interesting to know how many of these were IA’s selection, probably most if not all. Next week’s final programme in the series will be hosted by Alice Cooper. Rick Wakeman hosted the first programme but I don't know who hosted the second show.

I was intrigued, nay a little perplexed, by the “IA being thrown out of the studio” story/rumour that I’ve ransacked my cassettes and found the “offending” programme.
It was the Gloria Hunniford Show on BBC Radio Two, 26 July 1991. The question itself was in fact the last one from the interview and I’ve just transcribed that bit:
Gloria Hunniford: I’m going to finish with a track off the new album and in this case, the album just to remind everybody is called, in fact it’s the forthcoming album it’s not out until September, called Catfish Rising and this is a track called “Roll Your Own” - is this literally true?
Ian Anderson: Well it’s not really true. Yes it is a track on the album - you trying to get me to tell you what it’s about?
GH: Oh no.
IA: It’s nothing to do with drugs. Someone in the record company thought it was about rolling marijuana cigarettes or something which it certainly isn’t. Actually it’s more of an intrinsically sexual nature and really more to do with the female . . . .
GH: Judging by your face when I said . . . .
IA: I just don’t want to say female masturbation on the air especially in front of such a gracious lady as yourself.
GH: You see you were really good until the last few words then you had to ruin it all didn’t you. I’m going to have to play the music now and say goodbye - we’ll have to throw you out now.
IA: Oooh!
GH: Terribly sorry Ian you’ve got to go, goodbye
Plays “Roll Your Own”
If anyone wants a copy of this particular part of the interview (all 62 seconds) PM me your email address and I'll attempt to send you an MP3 copy.

These "best-of" polls are all very well, but there's always going to be somebody whose choice is not shown......so here goes:
The live record of the Wheels Of Fire double album by Cream.

Agreed. Two points - I think the "contenders" were chosen before the poll was opened so you sometimes have to wonder who might compile the list from which to choose from in the first place.
Secondly I've always wondered why the Thin Lizzy album always seems to come top of polls like this when I've read elsewhere that a vast amount of it was re-recorded in the studio subsequently after that particular concert . . . or is that just an urban myth?

Secondly I've always wondered why the Thin Lizzy album always seems to come top of polls like this when I've read elsewhere that a vast amount of it was re-recorded in the studio subsequently after that particular concert . . . or is that just an urban myth? Found this on wikipedia: After they had decided which tracks they were going to use, Lynott asked if they could re-record some vocals due to technical issues. After spending some time overdubbing various bits, noticing the impact on the result, they ended up re-recording all the vocals, guitars and bass. So the only real live elements of Live and Dangerous are the drums and the audience. Visconti justified this by stating that every track was performed before a live audience. The exception being Southbound, which was taken from a sound check onstage in Philadelphia. Tony Visconti has stated that the album is "75% recorded in the studio." So there I was, bored out of my skull and surrounded by boxes and boxes of custard tarts waiting to be shipped out to t**co depots when, at 3.30 this morning and on a local commercial radio station here in Cornwall called Pirate FM that normally plays "top 40" music, out of the PA system that pipes music around the factory comes the opening bass riff to Living In The Past. Oh joy, oh blessed joy - maybe things are on the up and it's an omen for good music here in Kernow.
