Bruce Rowland Martin Allcock ... Ashley Hutchings Joe Boyd ... Patrick Humphries You hear a re-recording in DVD format videotape embodying Fairport Convention at the time of 1987 in action at the annual festival in Cropredy, England. The tape was released in the same year, in honor of the 20-year anniversary team. The plot is not limited to one of the festival: individual songs interspersed comments of former and current at the time of the group and videos of different years in order since 1968. Thus, we see the difficult history of Fairport Convention for 20 years of career, marked by repeated changes of composition and tragedies. However, all of these obstacles could not undermine the spirit of the musicians Tracklist: The Cat On The Mixer / Three Left Feet (1987) Time Will Show The Wiser (1968) A Sailor's Life (1987) The Four Poster Bed (1987) Now Be Thankful (1970) Hand Of Kindness (1987) Rosie (1987) Polly On The Shore (1973) Solo (1974) Adieu, Adieu (1978) Fiddlestix (1987) The Hiring Fair (1987) Matty Groves (1987) The Rutland Reel / Sack The Juggler (1987) This youtube is not available in Germany because of these two songs "Fairport Convention-Meet On The Ledge" and "Ric Sanders-Portmerion"

Remy!!!!!!!!!! Weird to think that this now does not even come close to measuring half of their career, now in its 46th year. Wonderful doc. Love that they get the guy, the old guy at about 2.45, who does that verbal intro on Bird From The Mountain, I know its him I recognize the voice, I think that is sw country voice, Brits will likely know otherwise, definitely not from London. I think it goes, 'I'm out before the owls, home before the lark and....I forget the rest of it. Agreed also with the guy following him, Fairport is a way of life.

Agreed also with the guy following him, Fairport is a way of life. I also agree with that, I would not know to say about the rest, for me find it hard to understand many words in this video I follow Fairport many years and I love to have a translation of this DVD in Spanish, but I think it will not be possible.

You're right, I did not put the credit of the images because as you say are classic and Adrian's name is on the 1st page, I did not know that is a member of the forum By the way in those days when there was no Internet, "A New Day" was one of the few ways to stay up to date on what towards Jethro Tull, (and some specialized magazine),many Spanish fans we were subscribed to "A New Day ", so thanks to Martin, Adrian and Dave for all the information in those years

www.progrockmag.com/news/fairport-convention-announce-semi-acoustic-tour/Fairport Convention Announce Semi-Acoustic TourMartin Kielty, March 13 2014Fairport Convention have announced an extensive semi-acoustic tour to take place during May and June this year. Bassist Dave Pegg will be back in the fold after an arm injury forced him to sit out the band’s winter travels. He says: “In January I severed a tendon in the finger of my left hand while I was emptying the dishwasher – the irony is I’d just spent two days chainsawing firewood without incident. My hand was in a splint for six weeks. Luckily my son Matt is a bass player too and he was available to deputise. I’m raring to get back on the road and really looking forward to playing with the band again.” Fairport will deliver a set of old and new songs on the tour, which is described as having “an intimate feel.” They’ll follow the run of shows with their annual Cropredy Convention on August 7-9, which this year features Marillion, Steve Hackett and The Australian Pink Floyd Show among many others. Fairport Convention tour dates May 01: Hastings St Mary In The Castle May 02: Brighton Concorde 2 May 03: Chatham Central Theatre May 04: Bristol Bristol Folk Festival May 07: Hebden Bridge Trades Club May 08: Pocklington Arts Centre May 09: Kendal Brewery Arts Centre May 10: St Helens Citadel May 12: Nettlebed Folk Song Club May 13: Ipswich Cameo May 15: Leek Foxlowe Arts Centre May 16: London Borderline May 17: Malpass Malfest May 18: Cardiff Globe May 20: Lytham St Annes Lowther Pavilion May 21: Ilkley Kings Hall May 22: Bury Met May 23: Worcester Huntingdon Hall May 24: Broseley Birchmeadow Centre May 25: Looe Millendreath Festival May 26: Nottingham Lowdham Village Hall May 29: Spalding South Holland Centre May 30: Didcot Cornerstone Arts Centre May 31: Uttoxeter Acoustic Festival Of Great Britain Jun 01: Chipping Norton Theatre Jun 03: Cambridge Junction Jun 04: Norwich Open Jun 05: Clacton West Cliff Theatre Jun 06: Wimborne Tivoli Theatre Jun 07: Beckenham St Georges Arts Festival

www.lynnnews.co.uk/Dave Pegg... heading back to Norfolk this summer - ‘We always look forward to our Hunstanton gigs’Gareth CalwayGareth Calway: How’s the hand? Dave Pegg: Receiving painful physio. Matt (Dave’s son, deputy on the Wintour and veteran of Procul Harlem and Ian Brown tours) will play four tracks on the new album. GC: When can we expect Fairport back in this area? DP: We’re at the Open, Norwich, in June and always look forward to gigs at the Princess, Hunstanton, at which many nice comments were received. There are Norfolk dates on next year’s Wintour, which starts earlier at Celtic Connections in Glasgow (Jan 16) GC: After 45 years, do you still get nervous before a gig? DP: Not when I’m playing with Fairport or guitar and mandolin at smaller venues with Anthony John Clark and PJ Wright but I’m still not a confident individual, especially without a bass guitar doing the spoken intros. But Fairport audiences are always very friendly and on your side and it helped having Edwina Hayes as a quality ‘warm up’ act. GC: What do you feel your audiences come to your concerts for and what do you try to give them? DP: They come to hear old favourites and be entertained and we don’t take ourselves too seriously. But we try to blend in four new songs – on this tour it’s got them ‘played in’ for the new album - and (serious) songs from the back catalogue. GC: What would you want a new audience to say about you? DP: That with us the song comes first – we all have to like every song we play; that the individuals play as a collective; that we tread the boards rather than the studio. Cropredy (Fairport’s own annual festival in Oxfordshire) is where we extend our appeal to the kids and grandkids of our original 60s fans because it has something for everyone. The Waterboys, Chas and Dave, Cara Dillon and Marillion are all guests this year. GC: Why did you choose the bass guitar? – what does it gives to a band? DP: Good question! I started off in The Uglies and the Steve Gibbons Dylan Project as a guitar player influenced by the Shadows and the blues, but was replaced! So I bought a bass for £80 and found myself playing with legends like Ralph McTell, Sandy Denny, Richard Thompson and Jethro Tull. (Pegg was in Jethro Tull for 10 years). The bass is essential to rock music; most bassists (ask Paul McCartney) play the guitar and it gives you scope to go into all areas of music, even, as Matt does in some projects, as a lead instrument. Gerry (Conway, ex Fotheringay and now long-established drummer with Fairport) and I interlock instinctively – we know how to avoid getting in each other’s way. GC: What’s your favourite Fairport album? DP: Rising For The Moon, because I play on that with Sandy and The Swarb. n Legendary fiddle player Dave Swarbrick, part of Fairport’s 1975 Rising For The Moon tour brings ‘An evening With The Swarb’ to Folkspot Internet Radio live at Great Massingham Village Hall on Saturday, April 12. Got a bit of a surprise with this one posted today on the Fairport YouTube channel. I thought Nik Kershaw!! how old is he? then I realised -same age as me. He's looking good .... so am I I wonder if Nik will be appearing at a certain Christmas concert - Ian's working his way through 1980's male singers.........as guests! I still think that song doesn't quite work. It's one of those songs that should be better than it is.

Review: Fairport Convention, Lowdham Village Hall www.nottinghampost.com/Posted: May 28, 2014 Photos by Ed Herington"Tomorrow is our 47th birthday," announces Simon Nicol. "We first played 27th May 1967." There is no doubt that Fairport Convention have now got the hang of it. The line up has included such luminaries as Sandy Denny, Richard Thompson, Ashley Hutchings and Dave Swarbrick. However, the current format of Nicol, Dave Pegg, Chris Leslie, Ric Sanders and Gerry Conway has been the most enduring. Nicol further noted that, although they are often called legends of folk-rock, in fact there are actually few traditional songs in the repertoire but rather use of the imagery and themes of the genre. In this Warthog gig, Fairport went back to their formative years. Opening with Walk A While from the early 70s, they also included several numbers from the acclaimed Liege and Leif album: mystical Crazy Man Michael, the stirring Lark In The Morning tune medley, and a rousing Matty Groves which brought the gig to a close. At the other extreme, the group aired songs which are being considered for inclusion on a new CD, hopefully to be released before the end of the year. Myths and Heroes was good old rock and roll, whilst P J Wright's, Home was more a philosophical pondering. Add in Sandy Denny's, Fotheringay, two evocative Ralph McTell songs, Around The Wild Cape Horn, and, The Hiring Fair, along with the ever haunting air, Portmerion, it really was a treat.

Message from Peggy on the FC website. RIP Tracey Bullard 1948-2014 On Sunday 24 August, we lost one of our dearest friends, Tracey Bullard. Born Theresa Anne Muse in Edgbaston, 'Tracey' grew up in Smethwick and was a life-long supporter of 'The Blues' - Birmingham City. Tracey will always be remembered for the joy she gifted to all around her with her great kindness and personality. I first met her when she became the landlady at the George Inn, Barford St Michael. A great hostess who looked after all the visitors to our studio which conveniently was just down the road. The Fairports,Tull, Ralph McTell, Dan ArBraz, The Dylan Project and many others enjoyed their lunches there, and the many post-session beverages which were always served up with a cheering smile and a lovely black country accent. Tracey and her son Spencer soon got the pub rocking with their weekly music sessions on a Monday night. Spencer being a triffic harmonica player often stealing the show when jamming with the great bands they presented. Our delight at being so lucky with having The George just a two minute walk away became even greater when our dear friend Mick Bullard (drummer superb and vocalist with Freeway Jam) and Trace became an item. I must confess there were several late nights spent in the company of Tracey, Spencer, Mick and myself “after time”... This was not an every night scenario of course, and Tracey ringing the bell for Last Orders was always a moment of despair for the pubs occupants. She was so good at this that when Fairport recorded leonard Cohens “Closing time” we sneaked several tape recorders into the pub to capture her in action. Sadly she sussed us, and we had to stay “after hours” in order to get her on tape for the track. Chris Pegg and myself were lucky to have Tracey working with us at Woodworm after she packed up the pub and what a joy that was. She made the office a pleasure to be in and helped put Cropredy festival on the map. Sadly closing time eventually comes for us all. She spent the last week of her life in the wonderful Katharine House Hospice in Adderbury. Fairport fans will know of and indeed have helped enormously with our fund-raising on behalf of this wonderful place. I have a special acoustic bass on which I am collecting autographs of well known musos. I have many great autographs from Cropredy including Danny Thompson, Robert Plant, Steve Hackett, Ralph McTell, Fairports and many more. It is my ambition to get as many known and respected musos to sign it as I can and sell it on ebay as "The Tracey Bullard Signature Bass” and donate the money to the hospice.
The Fairports, their friends and crew, all send their love to Mick, Spencer, her family and the many who knew and loved her so much. Rest In Peace Tracey. www.fairportconvention.com/general_news.phpwww.khhospice.org.uk/

Nonrabbit, Irish and Scottish work too In that case how about some of the younger acts Lau - voted nearly every year as the best folk act in UK www.lau-music.co.uk/home/Love Lau Slide - A band of incredibly talented musicians each one with a great pedigree of generations of the finest musicians in Ireland. One of the best live acts I've seen since I moved over here. They used to have the singer Andrew Murray with them and what a voice! Former Dé Danann singer from the island of Inishbofin and also from a traditional Folk music family. www.slide-ireland.com/I love Folk fusion and what some of the younger generation are experimenting with. Peatbog Faeries from Skye. My latest discovery and I've been late in finding him is Martyn Bennett (17 February 1971 – 30 January 2005) Son of the Skye folklorist Margaret Bennett and probably the most influential musician in the genre of modern celtic music. Multi talented musician, played the Highland pipes at 10 years old. Headlined at the Cambridge Folk Festival and shortly afterwards was diagnosed with cancer. When he was unable to play he concentrated on mixing and remastering music. He sought out some old traditional singers like Lizzie, a traveller and ballad singer and in his words; "This is my story about triumph in the face of struggle. It is a story of the people and songs I grew up with, and most importantly, it is their voices, traditions and the inspiration they have given to be passed on to the next generation. Split between the songs of travelling people (Roma) and the Gaelteachd traditions of the Hebrides it brings together by far the strongest links to the 'real' folk culture in Scotland. Virtually all the songs and narrative were sampled from vinyl records or from original quarter-inch tape recordings, the sources of which were mostly recorded from 1950 onwards" His last album Grit will open the Celtic Connections Festival. and this I don't know if Ian was serious when he said he was going to do a version of Wee Deoch an Doras - it starts at 2.20 Incredible video!! www.martynbennett.com/
