Speaking of Germany ( in the other thread) watch Channel 4's Deutschland 83 - brilliant! i64.images obliterated by tinypic/zlyc12.png[/IMG] 'Set in a divided Germany in 1983, during a peak period for Cold War tensions between East and West. Martin Rauch, a wide-eyed 24-year-old East German soldier plucked from obscurity, goes undercover as a West German soldier for the East Germany Secret Service.' How soon before your able to see these British dramas elsewhere? Can these be downloaded to view in the States eg now?

Och it was brilliant ! i63.images obliterated by tinypic/2zf4guu.jpg[/IMG] " he has set his sights on 28 states and 8,000 miles of cities, coast, mountains, desert and swamp. Rich in the romance of the American dream, this is a travelogue in the tracks of the pioneers who built a nation." Mike Reilly said: “I cant think of anyone better qualified to undertake this journey than Billy, his love of America, its people and music combined with his one of a kind wit and skewered powers of observation will make this show a joy to be part of and more importantly watch.” He travels on the Empire Builder train around the country and last night he was in Minnesota, Montana and then Seattle. The statistics are staggering to us Brits. Minnesota has 27 million acres of corn. Montana is the size of Germany with the population of Birmingham and there's a hamburger in Minnesota that has melted cheese in the middle called a Juicy Lucy. On a more serious note - America is a great but flawed country. The number of homeless people who move to the West coast (for the weather) from all over the States is staggering and sad. When Billy was talking to some of them ( in Seattle)you realise that for all Britain's faults it offers far more support in housing and healthcare - at least for now. One woman was homeless because she had to choose paying rent or burying her son - she choses a headstone and decent burial for her son. Hope you get a chance to see it in the States.

I read that the bookmakers in the United Kingdom lost a fortune on the outcome of the American election. I do not know what the equivalent is in terms of odds, but they gave Hillary Clinton an 85% chance of winning. On this side of the Atlantic, most people knew that it would be a much closer race. His 'populist' approach- saying that the average person, rather than the elites, should have a stronger voice- appealed to many voters, and his racist and misogynist comments were overshadowed by his promise to create more jobs. Also, a lot of Americans dislike Clinton's personality. If it were anyone but her running against him, he would have lost for sure.
The shows I am watching:
Just finished Season 5 of DEXTER (3 more seasons to go).
First Season of FARGO (based on the movie).
First Season of TABOO (starring Tom Hardy, created by Ridley Scott).
First Season of LEGION (based on the graphic novel).

I suppose the Republicans that ran against him in the primary felt the same way. Regardless, the fact that Saturday Night LIVE is doing comedy skits like this is worth every moment.

Been staying up till the wee small hours binge-watching Peaky Blinders. I'm up to speed now. Brilliant...brilliant! Cillian Murphy is superb. Tom Hardy as Solomon the Jewish whiskey merchant (and much more) is award winning. Hesteals this scene Nothing Tull related, Dear old Ian never really went to the dark side did he? Nobody mention Beastie or Ray Lomas Anyway Bernie - you were right. I've now (only) discovered Nick Cave and it's been long overdue

I have an extra ticket for Nick Cave concert on June 24 in Berkeley, Patti. Yours.
Watching 'Sopranos'....many years after everyone else. Season six, episode 6 has Tony Soprano walking to the breakfast table singing 'sitting on a park bench'....oddly, the 'buy something' link provided by Amazon Prime. directs viewers to the Orchestral Tull CD. Logic or lazy ?

And seeing Eric Burdon at a dreaded casino in May...but that's the kind of gigs he plays, these days. At least is it a relatively benign casino, run by Native Americans in the woods....not Las Vegas or Las Vegas vibe at all. Just the kind of places we have as result of legal loophole that allows gambling.

I am watching WESTWORLD. The final episode of the 3rd season airs this Sunday. Every year, it gets more and more confusing, but I get the general gist of it.
It is so mindbending, WW makes THE MATRIX films or THE PRISONER (one of my all-time favourite TV series) seem like an episode of I LOVE LUCY.

I recommend the new crime drama "Gangs of London." It is the first show that I 'binge-watched' because, after the first installment, I realized there would be more thrilling action in every episode.
I think IA would be good at playing a crime lord in a TV series. He is one of the few rock stars who has the necessary gravitas.

Saw this way back in '74 and LOVED IT That's the HELL of IT FOR CRITERION CONSIDERATION: PHANTOM OF THE PARADISE by James McCormick LINK Always being in the shadow of The Rocky Horror Picture Show, I’ve grown up appreciating the tragic love story and the superior music of Phantom of the Paradise on a higher level and have never understood why this film has kind of gone a bit unnoticed over the last 37 years.

I recommend this film, which speculates on what may have happened during the real-life Flannan Isles mystery, when three lighthouse keepers disappeared without a trace in 1900. As usual, the trailer reveals too much of the story, so I just included the poster. The first half is better than the second half, but a still pretty good movie.
