It seems everyone is having hard times because of our economy. A few weeks ago I found out that as of November 1st we will have to contribute $40 from each paycheck back into our health insurance from work. In all my life I have never had a job where I had to pay for health insurance, it was always part of the package when I was hired. So I am now regressing in salary and raises are not in the cards till things actually change. Two of my friends were just laid off, so I should consider myself fortunate to still have a job.
And how was your week???

I agree that the media turned it into a witch hunt - they must be bored with financial news ! However imo - Ross/Brand went too far ( I didn't hear it but I assume they did say what they said ) As someone else said you can't do it in a work situation so why should they get away with it on a broadcast ?? Personally -(Non rabbits Two Pennyworths )- I can't stand Ross - he's slightly funny /smug - and I don't believe it's all an act and vastly overpaid !! Thank you and Goodnight ;D ;D The thing is, if you had heard it, you would have heard the tone in which they said those things. Reading what was said in black and white tells you nothing really. The fact is, it was broadcast on 18th October and received 2 complaints. Then the media caught on and bingo, 30,000 complaints probably from people who hadn't even listened to it. Did it go too far? Maybe. However, seeing as said granddaughter is a member of the so called Satanic Sluts, did sleep with him, and has shown up on various porn websites since all this brew-ha-ha, doesn't exactly paint her in a great light. I think the saddest part of the whole affair is the BBC Controller who lost her job. I did listen to it, btw, and I cried with laughter!

The day after election day...so a bit of politics on the brain...the turd in the otherwise sweet punchbowl of Obamas' victory is the passing, in california, of an amendment banning gay marriage. What a shame that on the day we elect our first Black president we also slap the faces of gay people who wanna have the right to couple off and have the same rights and benefits of couples who are heterosexual.

Northern Ireland, where I live, has in theory but not completely shed it's religious sectarianism skin- for now!! but not to worry cause there's plenty of other things to complain about....witness our 'first lady' Mrs Iris Robinson - politician and wife of our First Minister. Her views were aired on BBC Ulster..... news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/northern_ireland/7439661.stmIreland is a beautiful country however stuck in a time warp - negatively speaking.

So the MTV Europe Music Awards have been and gone once more. And guess who got an "award" for the best act ever? Rick Astley - holy Mary, how? By an on-line campaign to orchestrate votes. What's that talentless little so-and-so done? Sod all as far as I can see for the past 20 years. Rock music doesn't get much of a look-in at these events, would rock acts even want to?
Here's a bit of information: Cream were together for 2 and a bit years, during which time, they sold 36 million records, what about that Mr. Astley?

In the world of intelligent music what has Rick Astley ever achieved of lasting importance? It really beggars belief and leaves me annoyed as there are so many unsung heros of music that have gone unrewarded. 3. Just finished a long 48 hour week with not a word of thanks from so called management who did b****r all to us help us out. Makes me sick to think that at the end of the year guess who will get the credit for the increased turn over of production. 4. Never want to see another bramley apple pie for a long time. They're what caused us to work long hours as these pies are on promotion at a well known tesco store near you. OK, rant over. Now off to listen to "Bursting Out" through headphones to clear the brain cells of cr*p of the past week.

In this the season of goodwill to all, it's nice to see the Catholic church has issued it's latest pronouncement on homosexual behaviour. The pope now says saving us from such behaviour is as important as protecting the environment, oh really. C'mon Mr. Pope, have a go at the polluters of this world and leave people alone who happen not to share their lifestyle with yours. God is supposed to have created all of us, ergo, he created gays and lesbians, so did God have an off day when he created them?
Consider this, statistically, (depending on which survey you look at), something in the region of 7% of the population is gay or lesbian, which means when you're in church at Christmas, in a congregation of 100 (?), 7 people are likely to be gay or lesbian.
Rant over, to ALL Tullers/Non-Tullers everywhere, have a humdinger of a Christmas with the one you love, whoever that may be.

Rant over, to ALL Tullers/Non-Tullers everywhere, have a humdinger of a Christmas with the one you love, whoever that may be. Gay rights is a very important issue to me. I'm somewhat of an activist, I guess you could say. I think the problem is deeper, in that as long as the Catholic church (and a great deal of the rest of Christianity) believes that all sex outside procreation is sinful, this isn't ever going to change. To me, saying "All" takes the emphasis off the kind of sexual moral thinking that is relevant - are you being fair, are you misleading someone, are you honest, is somebody being set up to be hurt, etc. Instead, when it's "all" wrong, once you're outside the rules, you're just bad and evil and there is no more thought. This is my experience as a former Southern Baptist... But anyway, I guess religions have a right to a moral system, even if I disagree with it, but when they start trying to make laws controling other people's lives, that's when I get testy. BTW a good friend of mine was going to be a priest - when he went to seminary he was very upfront about being gay and they were okay with it - because he was going to be celebate anyway. But at the same time the climate changed, largely due to writings by the current Pope, who at that time held the office of what used to be called the Inquisitor (it's called something else now). So he finished the course work, but they wouldn't ordane him. Three years in seminary and all he got was a Masters Degree in Catholic Thought. And he started his own religion, so fie on 'em!

The keep house/lose house roller coaster has been going on for quite some time...with radically different predictions and expectations...I posted this article a long time ago:http://findarticles.com/p/articles/mi_qn4176/is_/ai_n29498194.....the article got me a helper...a local gadfly who tired and failed to work things out with the mortgage satans...when she saw the end of the road she suggested an attorney...so fatman put me in touch with an NYC lawyer who told me to get a local lawyer...who is now saying the original loan is fraudulent but it's too late to litigate....so now she will saber rattle a little and see if they blink and negotiate. I can't make myself look for a new place till we actually get booted...a good startegy cuz we are still in the house! I keep promising the kid a dog but not till we know if we stay or till we find a new place and pay rent on time a few months... i don't wannna look for a place with a dog. Poor thing is trying to be patient...certainly something she won't get from my genes!

I was hoping that the situation would improve for you. I'm just wondering if the legal advice you received was sound. When was the mortgage contract entered into? What is the Statute of Limitations? If the original contract was fraudulent to begin with does that render it unenforceable? Is there any kind of equitable action that can be taken? You should get a second opinion, and I'm thinking maybe you should consult with a large, well-hung real estate firm who might take a case like this for publicity and lean heavily on the mortgage company. You can't give up the fight. Jeff

Steel - my thoughts are with you buddy. Had a family member who lost their house due in part to an employee of their company stealing money in a very cunning and devious manner. The bank didn't care even though there were young children in the family and took the house. The thief subsequently died and no further action could be taken. Hope 2009 is better for you.

Tried booking 2 tickets for the Deep Purple show in London today. Tickets went on sale at 9am and you couldn't select a specific pair of seats - you had to take what Ticketmaster offered. That sucked, but I persevered and eventually accepted 2 tickets, to be e-mailed to me. Credit card details were supplied, then I had to go through a procedure called credit card verification - losing the will to live by this stage. I hit the final "Accept" button, or whatever it said and poooooof, the whole bloody procedure crashed.
Couldn't access the Ticketmaster web-site on our PC or laptop, but could on the neighbours' PC, eventually found a set of phone numbers, called 1 of them, waited 15 minutes listening to the usual "muzak"...."Welcome to the Ticketmaster customer help line" blah blah blah. If this press 1, if that press 2....the usual crap. "I'm sorry sir, we have no record anywhere on our system of you purchasing 2 tickets with that credit card number", scream, rage etc.
So, as I write this at 8:30pm, I don't know if I have any tickets out there in cyberspace, I don't know if my account has been debited and I can't access the bloody Ticketmaster web-site.
The last show I went to, was in a pub in Oxford, featuring a humdinger, ballsy rocky bluesy show by The Hamsters. No tickets, no fuss, no paperwork - just turned up at the pub, paid my £10 and had a fantastic time.

Well, at least I can access the Ticketmaster web-site now. Pretty certain those e-tickets have vanished somewhere out into cyberspace.
Here's a postscript to Fridays' rant: how come Deep Purple have only scheduled 4 dates in the UK? Is it the fact that promoters/concert hall owners in other countries are more aware of music fans tastes than their UK counterparts?

I don't know Sword - Is it a lack of promotion/advertising in general in this country(see other thread) for bands of that ilk. I don't think they tap in enough to that new audience out there. Are their more European/American/Canadian dates for Purple? Another thing too what about the great bands playing in Australia/New Zealand etc does that ever happen ? Wishing you luck Sword !!!!!

I just saw this headline/pic in the newsagents 10 mins ago!! Very very scary. The first theory that springs to mind is the shortening of childhood. At 12 years old I was still playing with dolls, reading comics about horses and running home from school to play on my bike. Some parents can't be bothered to allow children to be children -easier to allow them to watch adult progs or sit in their rooms watching a screen. Boys are streamed into adulthood via TV and electronic games, girls by fashion and make up. A leading store had 'sexy' T shirts for 5/6 year olds !! And thats before we even get to extreme bad parenting!!!!! It's not just a change in the last 30/40 years, my daughter notices the changes in childhood from her days compared to my youngest boy who's 12 years old. He is influenced by trends and his peers and if allowed would continually be drawn into electronic games AND YET when I sit down and play board games with him or his Dad takes him out to feed the cows (don't laugh) ;D he shows more enjoyment than sitting mesmerised 'zombie like' on his Playstation. It's scary and so sad for those children having children.

I know we've had at least two 12 year old girls having babies in the last year, because the wife of an aquaintance of mine delivered them! I'm actually surprised this made the papers, not that I'm approving of it (but if someone had been arrested, who would it have been?)
Kids are going to have sex if they get a chance, so I think the only choice is to not give them a chance! I mean, in the abstract of course by that age they know what can happen, but that oversight function in their brain is not fully developed, while at the same time the hormones are at their craziest. Maybe we need to keep them in school longer or something.
You know who ends up taking care of these babies: the teenager's parents do. I wouldn't like it... I remember my sister was a real wild child (while I, in contrast, was quite inhibited) and my mother came out and told her, "I've got my own life, and if you have a baby, YOU'RE the one who'll be raising it." And that might have been the only thing to prevent it!

Well, I'm glad you found out about it that way rather than some other way, like falling into a newly formed crack in the earth's crust or having a chunk of cement drop on your head! So you're all okay, right? Hope there aren't going to be any more for the time being.
