A companion to the what made your week thread. And a good night for me to start it. Karine Polwart played a great show tonight at the Roundhouse........ probably. A gig I'd been looking forward to for ages, I had a great seat, never been to the Roundhouse before, one of my favourite artists etc etc and I only went and forgot about it! Completely slipped my mind it was tonight. What a total and utter grade A dipstick! Col, you are a pillock

I have been having an awful week at work. Seems our AC broke in the building and we were 4 days last week with no AC and no windows to open. They had to order a part, well the part came and they spent all of Thursday night repairing it and we had AC on Friday. I come in this morning and the AC part they repaired broke again. So we will have to go a little while longer with no AC. Thank heavens I have my own fan I brought in. And how was your week??? Silken...

Good Morning Col: I forgot you are in the UK, while I am in the USA, South Florida and we won't have "nippy" weather till sometime in January or February, so having AC is not considered a luxury anymore, but a necessity. We are smack dab in the middle of Hurricane Season and just dodged another bullit from Hurricane Ike. But the season is at its peak and there are plenty more that will be born before the end of November. Silken...

Wake up this afternoon, bright eyed and bushy tailed, ready for another 10 hour night shift and . . . . . it's still bloody raining in Cornwall. At this rate I'll be building a boat and calling myself Noah.

My wife left the dining room light on all night. A small thing maybe, but I tried explaining the hole in the ozone layer is now 100 microns wider because of it

Here's what made me spit feathers today - the mean, tight fisted god damned attitude of this gutless, worthless government of ours. They said that the people who were forcibly removed from their home island of Diego Garcia in the 1960s', have had their right to return to their homeland overturned by the House of Lords. The government appealed against a court decision that had ruled in favour of the 2000 residents paving the way for them to return. They were originally evicted so that the Americans could build an airbase.
Our pathetic government has stated they are under no obligation to help these people to return, claiming that if the Islanders did return, it would seriously affect defence and security. Christ, as if colonizing the Chagos islands weren't bad enough, to not allow the inhabitants to return is obscene. How would our smarmy, spineless foreign secretary David Milliband like it if, say, he was forcibly evicted from his home, travel practically half way round the world to a place that is as familiar to you as Mars, then 45 odd years later, be told you stay where you are matey.
There, rant over.

Well, it didn't piss me off but it didn't make my day, either.
Upstairs bathroom busted a hose. We were all gone - everyone else for the day, me for 2 1/2 hours.
That was enough to cause massive water damage. We've lost all the carpet, and I don't know how much yet in furniture, stuff like that.
For myself - it's just stuff. I'll get over it. But for the kids....there were some losses that will take them a while.
And we need to stay in a local hotel for a few nights.....sigh.....

Ms. Blue-hare,
How old are the kids?...you might get an early x-mas surprise...I wish i lived a bit closer to come help and/or let you peruse the extra furniture which i will probably dump on Craigslist when I move soon...probably NOT worth a truck trip to the Bay Area! Sorry to read of yer bad luck and glad it's only things and not flesh n blood!

We've had water damage twice like that and it's a bummer to say the least. Hope everything gets back to normal as soon as possible.

Sorry to read of yer bad luck and glad it's only things and not flesh n blood! Hi, steelmonkey! I could say the same about you....meaning, I wish I could lend you a hand as well. We're in the same state, and are probably still just a tad too far away to do anything to help each other move, or pack, or anything! But I do appreciate the sentiment. Thanks. First time I've had a chance to answer you and maddogfagin. The "kids" are actually ages 21 - just turned on Oct. 23rd - and 17. Both girls. And I worried for nothing. The eldest lost the most and got a little emotional, but she's fine now. The youngest didn't lose anything that we know of. But her room was the least damaged. They both have been extremely cooperative, so this temporary move has been fairly easy. Thanks, maddogfagin! Turns out we will be put up in a hotel for a month as - well, we live in a split-level house - all four bedrooms and two bathrooms need to be completely re-done....carpets, downstairs ceilings, some walls, some floors..... But as steelmonkey pointed out.....all the four-leggeds and two-leggeds (and the two no-leggeds... ;D) are safe and housed. Can't ask for more than that right now..... It's a new adventure.....

It's a new adventure..... Good for you bluehare! Sorry to hear of your misfortune, hope it's a story with a happy ending. Not much for me to moan about at the moment....except the Russell Brand, Jonathan Ross situation......I thought witch hunts went out of fashion in the dark ages. I listened to that programme and thought it was hilarious, a bit over the top maybe but nothing that deserved the ludicrous reaction it got.

I agree that the media turned it into a witch hunt - they must be bored with financial news ! However imo - Ross/Brand went too far ( I didn't hear it but I assume they did say what they said ) As someone else said you can't do it in a work situation so why should they get away with it on a broadcast ?? Personally -(Non rabbits Two Pennyworths )- I can't stand Ross - he's slightly funny /smug - and I don't believe it's all an act and vastly overpaid !! Thank you and Goodnight ;D ;D
