After very many years I am back in contact with an old friend of mine Pete Fyfe who, amongst many of his various claims to fame, played mandolin on Jackie's album "Gael Force" (released in 1990/1991) which also featured Clive Bunker. Pete has agreed to answer some of my questions about the album and the group but if anyone has some questions of their own concerning Poormouth or Jackie McAuley, please feel to PM them to me and I'll pass them onto Pete in due course. From www.rgfrecords.demon.co.uk/releases/032.htm"In 1990, an independent album was released by McAuley under the name of The Poor-Mouth: 'Gael Force' was his second album (nearly 20 years after his first), and appeared on his own label, Breaking Records, and was mainly available at Poor-Mouth gigs. With contributions from many of the names mentioned above, and featuring all original material, it was state of the art Celtic R&B, fronted by McAuley mainly on guitar, but also as lead vocalist, keyboard player, composer and producer. The album was later released on CD by an early incarnation of Road Goes On Forever Records but is long deleted."

From my friend Pete Fyfe
Hi Graham As far as I recall... I believe it was around 1991 I was working as guitarist/mandolin player with Jackie's brothers (Brendan & Tony) in the London folk-rock group Schooner's Rig when Jackie approached me to play mandolin on one track of his forthcoming album. That album was "Gael Force" and the track was "This Must Be Love, Teresa". As I don't read music I asked Jack if he could possibly record the tune which was to be used as the 'outro' of the track so that I could learn it before I went into the studio. As Jack was also a gifted guitar player and dead handy with Celtic tune playing I thought this wouldn't be a problem. Unfortunately it never materialised so I had to enter the studio on a wing and a prayer and hope everything would go OK. As it happens (if memory serves me right) the studio had just taken order of a slab of Italian marble which they were installing in the drum booth so I spent a lot of the time honing the tune with Jack's help while we filled in time hanging around. After quite a lot of time spent not quite getting into the tune during rehearsals I eventually got asked to lay the track down on my trusty Stefan Sobell mandolin and it was completed in one or two takes. My involvement on the project proved to be one of my proudest achievements and if Jack's reading this article I can really say it was an honour to be involved. Unfortunately I only worked 'live' with the band on one occasion at The Torrington in North Finchley but the pleasure I had performing alongside my musical heroes Howard Tibble, Nick (the Sax/Harmonica player) and Jack of course was immeasurable. Hope that makes sense Graham...unfortunately no Bunker stories as I didn't get the chance of meeting him until later. Cheers Pete

I've just learnt that Pete Fyfe passed away a few days ago. Pete has been a friend of mine for over 40 years and his claim to fame in Tull circles is that he played on the Poormouth album "Gael Force" which included Clive Bunker in its line up. Pete's recollections about his involvement on the album are here: jethrotull.proboards.com/thread/2033/jackie-mcauleys-poormouth

He loved music and the satisfaction of playing to like minded people.

Whilst I can't possibly emulate young master bunkerfan's video of his drumming skills posted on the Forum a week or so ago, I did find this photo recently of a young MD performing with my trusty and reliable Epiphone acoustic guitar in a house band for a production of "Larkrise to Candleford", back in the 80s. Think Albion Dance Band and you get the idea. On my right as you look at the picture and playing the electric guitar is my good friend the late Pete Fyfe who was one of the musicians, along with Clive Bunker, who played on the Jackie McCauley album "Gael Force".

I play flute as well...but not as well as Ash, I'm sure. I guess that means I get Barlow's parts on SFTW and TAAB. I can play the recorder parts on Mother Gosse, too. Wait, maybe my role can be to NOT play tambourine on Rover ?
