Do you have to break my engine so you can fix it up again? Tuned to crazy imperfection just to score me out of ten. Well, you can wind me up. Yeah, you can slow me down...

My choices: 16. Kismet 7. Adrift 4. Swing it far 10. Power and Spirit 11. Confessional
It is interesting how despite us all being IA/Tull fans, we all have different tastes. I am really not keen on Old School Song or Wootton Basset and after a few listenings, I find myself skipping these tracks. Despite this I think this is the best IA album (including IA and Tull) for a many, many albums. Seems opinions differ on that too though.

I keep changing my mind on favourites. I'm rarther warming to 'Wootton Bassett Town' the lyrics send a shiver down my spine. Even 'Cosy Corner' that I didn't like at all the first time I heard it sounds OK now. I'll have to have a few more listens to come up with my top favourites.

Even 'Cosy Corner' that I didn't like at all the first time I heard it sounds OK now. I'll have to have a few more listens to come up with my top favourites. Still think Kismet is the best with Wootton a very close second. Mind you, and let's be perfectly honest, as an IA solo album the whole epic flows very well and is more than an honest album, it's a classic. Compare it to much of the dross that's released today and you may see from where I'm coming from. I would agree with the members who bemoan the fact that it's not a Tull album. I would hazard a guess that with Martin on board with, let's say for want of arguement Andy Giddings, Jon Noyce and Doane Perry, it would have turned out to be a very different beast. But we will never know which is a shame. I'm just very glad the headmaster has got back into the studio and produced TAAB2. He could have just said "sod it" and not recorded anything and left things, albeit getting very stagnated, and gone on tour this year with a set list similar to last years. It does prove, all things considered, that the muse is still very much in evidence and I'd rather have TAAB2 as it stands than nothing at all.

Which leads to the question; After this wallop of fresh material and a tour featuring TAAB one and two....how will it feel in about 2014 to go to a same old same old Tull gig and hear the war horses and a few three minute surprises....or will Tull tours be dragged up as well with this new material, more new stuff and Ian relenting on the greatest hit setlist when the marquee dares say 'Tull'?

Like others I think this album is excellent stuff. Interested to get others view though.. is there anyone from the JT era that has got good reviews or produced a decent album in recent years. I have bought a couple of Robert Plant cd's and in my view, they are very good but not great albums. Just struggling to think of anyone else in their 60's that is producing great albums still!
I listened to the album numerous times and then listened while reading the lyrics (this is a problem if you have only downloaded the mp3). It really adds to the quality of the album and the story kind of makes more sense now...

I'm surfacing from the depths of intense listening to say; Gerald Goes Homeless segmentBeautiful melody on Swing It Far, the song so well structured, even the first part which is spoken sets the scene as Gerald is talking and explaining why he felt different from some of the other boys and how he coped. Then ,not for the first time, I am singing along to words about homelessness, children and exploitation. " Men came and went in his moments of madness...... Too much intensity too much feigned sadness......" The musical link from Swing It Far to A & Dumbfounded is a beauty. Jesse is spelt incorrectly-maybe deliberately so?. Jessie is a Scottish word for an effeminate man and would have been used as an insult in the same vein as the word" Poof "was in the 50's/ 60's/70's and by Gerald's parents. I'm a bit confused though if this is what happened to Gerald - does the story run in sequence? Why was he a banker before he became homeless and joined the army? Would the banker part not be later?

Having said some of that, he could have put a bit more pathos in his speaking voice at the start of Swing It Far and the opening bars of A & D'ded sounds bit like a Giddings song can't remember which one

The destinies are imaginary concurrent...not sequential. Change of Horses is coming along strongly on my favorites race...with Kismet, Pebbles and Banker holding strong positions....there isn't a single part I don;t like, however....I continue to listen to it straight thru without and move to the skip button on the CD player.

Lyric jamming is my only complaint. 16. "Kismet in Suburbia" 4:17 has a Dire Straits sound. Right? Others have noticed. Of note; DVD muddy & bloated to start, when I used my triple crossover setting adjusting centre & rear speakers the sound cleared up.

Plus my sub was way too loud. Adjusting with this album (5.1) in mind has helped my overall sound, thanks Steven Wilson. It's difficult to go back to stereo after this great 5.1 mix. There's enough surprises in the 5.1 that I would not want to be the spoiler for those that will eventually stumble ;D there. Well, you got a nice apartment here with appliances and CD. We're gonna leave your stereo, but we'll have your soul for tea.edit; high to low

I am hearing the influence and subtle intent of God Rest Ye at the beginning of Give Til It Hurts. Not the flute kind the kind with lyrics. As to the best track did not expect to be nor am I surprised to find that that is A Change of Horses, which I believe ranks alongside absolutely anything he has ever done. Suspected as much when first being performed as an instrumental, A Celtic Cradle with Anoushka and company, (and I dearly hope versions of its original form are recorded with her, as well as one with Meena Bhasan, the violist from the tour it first appeared on with lyrics in 09.) For that matter I would love to see a IA record that recalls all the, to my ears, wonderful guests that appeared with IA or Tull dating back to the girl in 05. Glad they at least got a live version of King Henry's on that acoustic set with the second or third of those girls, the American, that sucker burns nicely.

I love the song but, Mr. Jennings gives me the creeps. that's what I said earlier ;D I'm singing along to the words; "Under bedclothes, underhand ..." Remind me of " watching as the frilly ......" If this was 1971 again my granny would be shouting at my bedroom door "What IS THAT your listening to!!"
