Love the John Evans pic somewhere up this thread. Here's my pseudo-review of the album: boredwithoutmusic.blogspot.com.es/2014/08/jethro-tull-vi-back-to-normally.htmlIt's funny, I do like it, quite a lot, but I never listen to it as a whole and it has never properly hooked me. Actually, now that I think about it, of all the 70s Tull albums, I only like TOTRNR (and maybe Benefit, depending on my mood) less than Warchild, Which isn't saying that much because I'm in love with 70s Tull. This is another collection I'm really looking forward to. but, the thing that amazes me though is that Ian has constantly said the vaults are empty, yet every time an anniversary comes around out pops another lost tape. Is it coincidence, bad organization, or just holding it back to add to his pension (I'm joking on that last point). I'm looking forward to it whatever! Like Jim says, it's all Tull!

and 'War Child' was the name of some high profile charity during the Sarajevo siege, I think... Interesting article by David Wilson Activist, writer and whistleblower... Brian Eno & Me War child Link I first met Brian Eno 21 years ago. War Child, the charity that I had co-founded, was supporting music projects during the Bosnian war in Sarajevo and Mostar.
One day Brian's wife and manager, Anthea, walked into our office in Camden Town with a cheque to support this work. The Enos became our link to the music world. They set about bringing in tens of thousands of pounds with three fundraisers, "Little Pieces from Big Stars", "Pagan Fun Wear" and "Milestones".

I love and hate the web....sometimes it proves you aren't making stuff up...sometimes it does. My kid nails me every day. I told her 'Aluminum is not an element..it's man made from other elements' nope.

I think parents not able to make things up and lie to kids is the beginning of the end of civilization.

WAR CHILD (1974)
The online literature suggests that this particular child had a difficult birth, and it does come across as more of a Frankenstein creation than the product of an act of love. There appears to be obvious trimmings from A Passion Play, which is a mystery in itself when you consider 'Hare' made the cut on that album. It seems disjointed and repetitive, particularly in the opening tracks. But it does improve and the better-known tracks on side 2, 'Skating Away' and 'Bungle In The Jungle' are worthy additions to any album. I didn't mind Sealion either. No-one is listed as playing the uilleann pipes but if not then they find a way of mimicking them quite well with a synthesiser. 'Two Fingers' is a reworking of 'Lick Your Fingers Clean' from the Aqualung recording sessions. The little spoken parts are slightly annoying. I don't even like the artwork. It looks pretty amateurish.

Love this video. Uploaded by JOscar and his thoughts on the song. Interesting! In an interview some 35 years after the songās release, Ian Anderson explains that the composition of his Jethro Tull hit single, Bungle in the Jungle, was a study of the human condition. He states, āā¦I was writing an album that was exploring people, the human condition, through analogies with the animal kingdom. And that particular song was perhaps the more obvious and the more catchy of the tunes.ā1 Indeed, a close analysis of the lyrics reveals deep existential and eschatological motifs.2 Let us delve into the songās words, phrases and concepts to learn of man, his world and his destiny. Walking through forests of palm tree apartments --- This verse sets up the analogy of animal kingdom to human world that will be used throughout the song. Manās jutting apartments make for a cityscape akin to a forest of palm trees ā a jungle ā through which one makes his way with great effort and difficulty.3 By starting with the verb āwalking,ā we are informed from the outset that we are not here to sit in passive observation but rather to actively embark on an adventure. Indeed, we are going on the excursion of our very lives. Scoff at the monkeys who live in their dark tents Monkeys represent people who take everything as a joke, oblivious to the serious nature of reality. Darkness is a metaphor for ignorance, so living in ādark tentsā emphasizes the uneducated nature of these people. Darkness is also a metaphor for evil, so living in ādark tentsā further implies an ignorance that begets immorality.4 Witnessing such base living evokes a contempt that is given expression as āscoffingā. Down by the waterhole --- drunk every Friday --- A āwaterholeā is a well-worn euphemism for a bar or pub; and so it is that these āmonkeysā ā these people who choose to mock reality ā do so by inebriating themselves. This occurs particularly at the weekend when, being of the working class, they are finally left to themselves. Eating their nuts --- saving their raisins for Sunday. The workday week is lived humbly off of staple foods and staple thoughts, while the consumption of sweets that tantalize the senses is reserved for the āSabbathā day.5 Though this alludes to a religious ethic of celebrating the āSabbath day as holyā6, it is here mentioned disparagingly as an addendum to the drunken Friday. For the āmonkeys,ā their religiosity is merely part of the rote of life, disconnected from reflection and thought needed to reach a higher consciousness...

Wondering if anyone has heard if the full-length movie ideas for the Warchild project were entirely shelved or converted to other projects? There are many themes on the album, which seems to be a brain-storming session captured in mid somersault. Is the album all that's left or is there more in other formats and other places?

The information on this topic, in the War Child re-issue bible. was very interesting and made it seem as if Ian was a bit naive and out of his element and once he got trapped in rooms with producers and directors and actors and other movie world people, he found himself bombarded by questions he could not answer right away and the very real prospect of giving up huge swaths of artistic and practical control....and he promptly fled back to his rock and roll world...and yet, give him credit, he went through the same dreams and dreams dashed prospect around a stage play for TOTRARTYTD. Too bad no one gave Ian the time, money and additional resources including collaborative but not controlling professionals in the film or theater world....looking back it's pretty clear that he would have surely produced something interesting and accomplished...or even dazzling. Spilt milk.
