CHELSEA - flaming is prohibited Well technically it is, but this is a football thread so I'm staying well out of it. F1 is my sport

I've been to quite a few Carlisle games and I live near Glasgow! Love going to Brunton Park. In Scotland I follow Motherwell FC but the SPL is always the same 2 horse race. It's boring and tiresome.

My german team...FC St Pauli...looks like they're gonna claw into the Bundesliga next year...great in principle but bittersweet cuz their homey, hippie-punk haven stadium is substandard---they'll probably have to share the corporate generic sponsor-ridden $h1thole that the local big league perrenials use...but even funnier---their fans simply do not and will not travel to other cities...hell, they may not travel out of their neighborhood, german's coolest outside of berlin, even to 'home' games in the part of hamburg where their fashion sense and older cars might get police attention! I look forward to seeing how their 'ascent' to the big league plays out. (BTW-it's not clinched yet...just very likely after today's victory over the third place team).

Been a Spurs supporter for 50 years and am pissed off with the way they played on Sunday against Portsmouth. Plenty of possession, but not much idea how to stick the bloody ball in the net. I know they had Jenas, Lennon, King, Woodgate unavailable and the Portsmouth goalkeeper David James made some splendid saves but they should have buried Portsmouth by half-time.

Yee gods, what a difference a week makes, victories against Arsenal and Chelsea, every team member played as though their life depended on it and some fantastic individual performances in both games. My vote for player of the week goes to Gareth Bale, shame he isn't English.

Ha ha......enough said...but seriously...my horse in this years race is Argentina...i want Maradonna to keep his promise and race around the Buenos Aires Central Square with his drug-addled little pistol unsheathed.

Someone 'splain me something....the tiebreaker rules in the group set are: goal differential and total goals in all group play matches...then...if the teams are still tied, it goes to: head to head competition followed by head to head differential and total goals....I don't get it...if the teams tied head to head...wouldn't the differential and total goals also be tied?

You got me there - I don't know. In my far off days of sporting achievement and excellence we used to flip a coin after extra time and/or penalty's. Anyway, Crystal Palace have a new manager and avoided relegation and have just come out of administration and . . . .

To Mad Dog.....I think George Burley will do a great job for you. In his times at Colchester, Ipswich, Hearts, Derby and Southampton he had a great goalkeeping coach caled Malcolm Webster who is a big buddy of mine. Just before Malc and Ann went on holiday last week, we had a text to say Malc was 'starting a new job soon' . If it is with you chaps, you should watch for significant goalkeeping improvements. Some of the keepers Malc has worked with include Richard Wright, Rob Green and Craig Gordon...all of whom made their national sides.

I'll pass that over to the palace lads asap. Richard Wright was at Palace on loan a few seasons ago as far as I can remember but it's been traditional that they've always had good goalkeepers, apart from one or two absolute mingers, ever since I can remember. Bill Glazier, John Jackson, John Burridge, Nigel Martyn, and Jules Speroni to name but a very few. Cheers Maddog

Malc's got great connections so if I hear of any possible signings I shall advise. I als oremember him telling me that when he was doing work at Norwich, a young striker kept asking for advice as to where he should aim his shots, to cause keepers the most trouble. The young striker took advice and even trained with the keepers in the afternoons when many others had gone home. That young striker - the mercurial Craig Bellamy!

Thye mention of Tull in the article about the England v Slovenia gane led me to follow the link and read the report. I can point out my amazement to TWO MORE TULL REFERENCES in the same article. The match details are listed as a time line.
Note number one - after 5 minutes Johnson has endured a shaky start. He clatters into Kirm again, and is lucky to escape a booking. The referee explains to him that he's on thin ice.
then after 86 minutes a track from Aqualung gets a mention: With the England area loaded after a Slovenia corner, Brecko bounds in down the right and hits the worst shot in the entire history of the World Cup. My God. England were worried there, and very pleased to see the ball sliced straight out of the stadium.
Do I get pats on the back all round for ingenuity?

Screw Soccer/football whatever you unevolved non-hand using barbarians call that stupid sport...the only sport worth attention is Ultimate Frisbee...the rest is soap opera for men, minus the writers. ( this has nothing to do with the Ghana/USA result)

Hi Ste Yep, Burley's clearing out the old lags from the team of last year. To be fair, they did their job fairly well but the legs are getting tired these days. I reckon that this coming season will be an interesting one down at Selhurst Park - new owners, new manager and the legend that is Dougie Freedman is still assistant manager. Maddog
