I am sure that the remix reissue will do everything for people to reappreciate Stormwatch. From the standpoint of its historical importance within the Jethro Tull story, I'm looking forward to this release. It is going to be interesting to hear the previously unreleased items to see how they stand up to the original album content. Bring it on

Thanks for the update! The news is all good. I can still remember the first time I heard a song from the album. I was working in a grocery warehouse. We were on our coffee break, all of us sitting at a picnic bench. I could hear an unfamiliar flute passage from the speakers in the next aisle. I jumped up, walked across the table and ran in to the next aisle, and sure enough A New Tull Song!!!!! The DJ said "That`s Something On The Move". When I got home I put on the radio to hear it again....and it was not played again until I bought the cassette (the blue case) the next Sunday. I played that cassette so much that the songs are wiped off...except for the "No" on North Sea Oil. Needless to say, It`s my favorite album after the 71-75 era. I can`t wait to hear the new (old) stuff. How good is it to (almost)have 6 new Jethro Tull songs with their best lineup +JHH Say what you will about Ian`s tight reigns on Tull. It`s the reason we can benefit from a large catalog of quality songs and why Tull lasted year after year while other groups were breaking up left and right.

At last Thanks Daniel bravewords.com/news/jethro-tull-stormwatch-40th-anniversary-edition-due-in-octoberJETHRO TULL – STORMWATCH 40TH ANNIVERSARY EDITION DUE IN OCTOBERJuly 17, 2019, 8 hours ago Jethro Tull released Stormwatch in September 1979, completing a folk-rock trilogy the band started with Songs from the Wood in 1977 and continued the following year with Heavy Horses. Certified gold in the U.S., Stormwatch was also the final album to feature the classic late-1970s Jethro Tull lineup, which included Ian Anderson, Martin Barre, John Glascock, John Evan, David (now Dee) Palmer and Barriemore Barlow. To celebrate the album’s upcoming anniversary, Rhino will release Stormwatch: 40th Anniversary Force 10 Edition. This new 4CD/2DVD set will be available on October 11th. Highlights include: - Original album and associated recordings newly remixed by Steven Wilson - Full concert from the Netherlands recorded in March 1980 - Original album and 13 associated recordings mixed to 5.1 DTS and AC3 Dolby Digital - Flat transfer of the original 1979 mix at 96/24 LPCM stereo - 15 associated recordings mixed to 96/24 LPCM stereo and five original mixes at 96/24 LPCM stereo - Presented in a case-bound DVD book filled with an extensive history of the album, track-by-track annotations by Anderson and Palmer, rare photographs and more The recording sessions for Stormwatch stretched from August 1978 to July 1979 as the album’s ecological and maritime themes slowly came into focus on songs like “North Sea Oil” and “Flying Dutchman.” The band recorded several tracks that were left off the album because they didn’t fit the theme. Many of those can be found on the second disc of this set, including “Man Of God,” “Crossword,” “Kelpie” and “The Lyricon Blues.” In addition to those outtakes, the disc also features early versions of the album tracks “Dark Ages” and “Dun Ringill.” Stormwatch: 40th Anniversary Force 10 Edition also includes a previously unreleased recording of Jethro Tull’s concert at Congreßgebouw in the Netherlands on March 16th, 1980. The career-spanning performance mixed new Stormwatch tracks (“Something’s On The Move,” “Home” and “Elegy”) with older hits, like “Locomotive Breath,” “Aqualung,” “Thick As A Brick” and “Minstrel In The Gallery.” Stormwatch: 40th Anniversary Force 10 Edition concludes with two audio-only DVDs that feature various mixes of the original album along with the associated recordings featured in this set. Stormwatch marked the end of an era for Jethro Tull. Due to his deteriorating health, bassist John Glascock missed most of the sessions for the album and only appears on three of its songs (“Flying Dutchman,” “Orion” and “Elegy.”) Tragically, Glascock died shortly after the album was released. The lineup changed even more following the tour to promote the album as Barlow, Evan and Palmer left the group. Tracklisting: Disc 1: Steven Wilson Remix of Original Album “North Sea Oil” “Orion” “Home” “Dark Ages” “Warm Sporran” “Something’s On The Move” “Old Ghosts” “Dun Ringill” “Flying Dutchman” “Elegy” Disc 2: Associated Recordings “Crossword” “Dark Ages” (early version) [Previously Unreleased] “Kelpie” “Dun Ringill” (early version) [Previously Unreleased On CD] “A Stitch In Time” “A Single Man” [Previously Unreleased] “Broadford Bazaar” “King Henry’s Madrigal” “Orion” (full version) [Previously Unreleased] “Urban Apocalypse” [Previously Unreleased] “The Lyricon Blues” “Man Of God” [Previously Unreleased] Rock Instrumental (unfinished master) [Previously Unreleased] “Prelude To A Storm” [Previously Unreleased] “Sweet Dream” (live) Disc Three: Live In The Netherlands (March 16th, 1980) (Previously Unreleased) “Intro” “Dark Ages” “Home” “Orion” “Dun Ringall” “Elegy” “Old Ghosts” “Something’s On The Move” “Aqualung” “Peggy’s Pub” “Jack-In-The-Green” “King Henry’s Madrigal” / Drum Solo “Heavy Horses” Disc Four: Live In The Netherlands (March 16th, 1980) (Previously Unreleased) Flute Solo (including “Bourée/Soirée/God Rest Ye Merry Gentlemen/Kelpie”) Keyboard Duet (Bach’s Prelude in Cm from the “Well-Tempered Clavier 1”) “Songs From The Wood” “Hunting Girl” “Jams O’Donnel’s Jigs” “Thick As A Brick” “Too Old To Rock ‘N’ Roll: Too Young To Die!” “Cross-Eyed Mary” Guitar Solo “Minstrel In The Gallery” “Locomotive Breath” “Dambusters March” DVD One: Audio Only -Stormwatch mixed to 5.1 DTS and AC3 Dolby Digital -Flat transfer of the original 1979 mix at 96/24 LPCM stereo DVD Two: Audio Only -Contains 13 associated recordings mixed to 5.1 DTS and AC3 Dolby Digital -15 associated recordings mixed to 96/24 LPCM stereo -Five original mixes at 96/24 LPCM stereo

Is it odd that there’s no info on who mixed the live material? Is it just a FM radio / bootleg transfer?
Doesn’t sound like multi-tracks were available.

From Facebook, some interesting extra info:
18th October will see the release on RHINO / Parlophone of another in the series of remixed Jethro Tull deluxe editions. Stormwatch: The 40th Anniversary Force 10 Edition is a massively expanded 6 disc version of the band's 1979 album Stormwatch. CD1 includes my remix of the original 10 track album, while CD2 includes 72 minutes of associated recordings all freshly remixed, including several previously unreleased songs from the sessions (see below for full contents of this disc). Perhaps of particular interest to fans is that key track Orion was recorded as a significantly longer and more complex piece before being edited down to less than half its length for the album. The complete unedited master has been mixed and is presented here for the first time. CDs 3+4 include a concert recording from March 1980. Finally, two DVDs include all of the remixed material in high resolution stereo and 5.1 surround sound. As always with these deluxe Tull book editions, it's likely to be a one-time manufacturing run, so pre-ordering is advised. News on that coming soon!
Disc Two: Associated Recordings (all new 2019 remixes)
1. Crossword (3.35) 2. Dark Ages (early version) (11.54)* 3. Kelpie (3.33) 4. Dun Ringill (early version) (2.42) 5. A Stitch In Time (4.26) 6. A Single Man (2.39)* 7. Broadford Bazaar (3.44) 8. King Henry’s Madrigal (3.03) 9. Orion (full version) (9.13)* 10. Urban Apocalypse (4.46)* 11. The Lyricon Blues (5.14) 12. Man Of God (6.31)* 13. Rock Instrumental (unfinished master) (3.30)* 14. Prelude To A Storm (2.30)* 15. Sweet Dream (live) (4.38)
* Previously unreleased

I'm psyched for this!
I never really fell in love the production quality of the original record...sounded a bit distant and flat. Anyone else feel that?
I'm sure SW will add some vibrance to the mix.

Way back in 1979. I listened to this album over and over on a record player. To me it sounded so good the only difference may have been digital versus analog...

Is it odd that there’s no info on who mixed the live material? Is it just a FM radio / bootleg transfer? Doesn’t sound like multi-tracks were available. A It would appear to be from the same source as the Watchers On The Storm bootleg and taken originally from an fm broadcast. Can't say enough about this one!! The quality is the best of any FM source I have knowledge of. This was a great tour with the introduction of Dave Pegg, bringing with him instrumentals and material from "Fairport Convention"--and later other Fairport members would play in the "tull' line up as well/this tour sadly ended an era, as after the tour John Evan, Barriemore Barlow, and David Palmer leave "Jethro Tull"/many people feel that "Jethro Tull" died with the 70's, but I feel many great things have happened, and many talented musicians have stepped up to the bat. <-(Info taken from farmonthehighway.homestead.com/main.html)

I’m guessing Sweet Dream live is there because it was the B side to the Stitch In Time single.
It was the Bursting Out version .. maybe included cos it’s a different version / venue source than the one now on the Horses box set.

Not on Amazon yet for pre-order...I'll give it a few dyas and visit Burning Shed, I guess. When I get the boxes from Amazon it SOMETIMES includes digital access too. Regarding 9:00+ minute Orion...to quoye butter amd Aqualung fan, Johhny Lydon; 'Tie me to the length of that' !!! This is going to be a very great addition to Tull music stash. It will be a shame if they stop with Stormwatch...I am sure there are worthy vault secrets from 'A' and the drum machine era ( I think they used up Broadsword extras on 20 year box and Nightcap).

Can’t wait. I think this will have the most cool studio tunes of the remix sets so far. We basically know 3/4 of them. I’ve heard Palmers version of Apocalypse although I’ve forgotten how it sounds but thought it had potential to be another top Tull track. Extra 5 minutes added to Orion, Single man, Prelude to storm, Rock instrumental and Man of God will be interesting to hear. Hopefully better than Hoeing and hopefully a finished recording

Even in 71, 73 and 78 there was almost enough for a second album. 76 there were also plans for another album and it seems more material may be on the missing tapes. Hope they find them

Hi all, this is my first post on the forum (except my "hello from South Yorkshire" post)
I am new to Tull and from what I can gather Stormwatch, like "passion play" appeared to have been savaged by critics after its release. ( For the record I love Passion play and it is already right up there as one of my all time favourite albums).
I would be curious to know if anyone can remember, why the critics did not like the Stormwatch and do any on here actually agree with the critics?

Critics are just average people and the average person doesn’t have good taste lol. So what remixed sets you have? Most of them are close to 5 stars. Tonnes of great extra tracks and quality remixing. Every remix has a surprise or two compared to the remasters. I’d say Too Old has the most surprises so far but Stormwatch might be the biggest winner. Can’t wait for it
