Hi. My 2nd ever post. I know I'm in the minority when it comes to the Anderson album "Walk Into Light" and Tull's"Under Wraps". I felt that Ian entered a new area and, if you are a GREAT songwriter, your songs will be great no matter what. In short, I treasure both works.
In addition, I think "Roots To Branches" is brilliant and, surprisingly, "Dot Com" has some fine tunes.
My long-winded point here is that, on the British charts, (I believe) all 4 four of these albums charted quite highly! But in the USA (I'm a lifetime New Yorker) they charted really nowhere.
Could any of y'all Brits explain this. Or am I correct in that it is simply the British appreciating these latter-day Anderson/ Tull efforts more?
Also, could anyone explain, possibly, how the UK chart system works? (In the US, I believe it's all 'Billboard")
Bye!

If you want a run-down of the UK charts and want to access info about Tull's chart positions have a look at www.everyhit.com as it's probably the easiest site I've found to see artist chart placings. You could also try www.thetop40charts.co.uk. The whole issue of UK charts is a minefield as over the years various publications were and are used. It was quite conceivable that a record, back in the 60s and 70s, would be at no. 1 in Melody Maker, for example, but only at no. 3 in New Musical Express. Nowadays it's seems even more complicated with downloads, records/cds, etc. all bundled together to form a chart.
