1. What is the BEST Tull album? ....................... the next one. 2. What is your FAVOURITE Tull album? ........... stir-fry Tull masala with acoustic veggies.
"Best Of" albums always suck. I don't like albums I like particular songs and sometimes not even songs, but particular musical sections. In fact I don't even like musical sections, I'm into microfragment moments of intergalactic jibberjabber of the most spontaneous kind, wrapped up in zero point field envelopes of quantum cadenzas previous to the start. Once it's recorded, it's invalid, it's past tense, it's Rodney Dangerfield getting no respect for false formality and telling the Dali Llama about it. Listen to the laughter in the trees!

He's right, you know....when are you you other well-meaning but ill-informed miscreants finally going to admit that A Passion Play is to Jethro Tull albums what Jethro Tull is to all other rock bands? We've been through this and there are stiil those who disagree....i don't want to scare you, but there may have to be punishments for the wrong...and any dribble about 'opinion's or 'to each their own' etc will only earn double punishment....clear?

Here to restore order and consume rare meats. 1 TAAB favorite 2 TAAB best (and certainly their best live performance, it was the crest of their importance, maybe its good that the Passion Play followed it, they were never supposed to be that popular)
To be certain, at one point or another in the past 40 years, very nearly everything they have recorded has been my favorite for a day. But after the shaking of the sheets....And Aqualung narrowly misses even making the top 10. Passion Play? about 21.

It appears there are 2 main schools of thought here, PP or TAAB. (Interesting that you should post the Hawking article, nonrabbit,. as part of your answer. Is he one of the wise men who don't know how it really feels or an actor of the low high Q....?) I am with you though, TAAB changed my life, but PP set Tull firmly into my head as the best band ever. Best album...too many to choose. Favorite (or favourite..) How do you choose your favorite child? Tough question indeed.

Tough question indeed. impossible reminds me of a funny story that Ricky Gervais told once when he was being interviewed by a rookie journalist on some small town newspaper. It took the style of one of those child- like Q&A's Q If your house went on fire what three things would you save? Ricky - Thats easy - the photo album - the cat and one of the twins. The journalist thought he was serious and printed the answer stating; "Today we have an interview with Ricky Gervais, comedian and father of twins" ;D

www.uberrock.co.uk/interviews/53-february-interviews/4103-ian-anderson-interview-exclusive.htmlQ: It's interesting to hear you associate the word 'joke' with the original 'Thick As A Brick'. I know people who regard that album as their all time favourite album. IA: - Well there are a bunch of wackos out there who say that 'A Passion Play' is their all time favourite album. But they should of course remain in the establishment for the criminally insane in which they probably already reside! Here's your I.D. (Ideal for identifying one and all.) Oh oh...maybe I don't work at the nuthouse...maybe I live here and tell people online i am on the staff........damn....outed by Ian.
But all seriousness aside...what a great statement by Ian...indicating beyond a doubt that he knows that we know that he knows that we know etc.

I am criminally insane but they have just let me out for five minutes to post this reply. Cheers Ian - hope you have enjoyed the £ thousands I have spent on Tull over the years and and as a repost maybe you were in the same home as me when you put out Under Wraps.

I can see how Ian could come to such perceptions of A Passion Play as he is the one who lived it. Had that album not been created, or even if the one from Chateau had been released, Tull would not have become quite the standard bearer for all that is uncool and out of its time. I won't say they would then have been remembered fondly, they just may not have been case one. Oddly, and maddeningly to me, the one band with some ties to prog rock who was spared this treatment, at least in Chicago, along about 76, 77 was Genesis who were seen to be the band that struck some sort of balance. Never was a huge, sort of a moderate Genesis and Gabriel fan, but a little resentment makes me like them a little less. Oh, and an answer that has been uniform for nearly 40 years, TAAB. It probably took a few months, or at least until I first saw the show in May for it to supplant the prior 3 at the top, at this point I still had not heard This Was!

Brilliant question:
- Best: Benefit (just ahead of Songs from the Wood) - Favourite: Under Wraps (curiously, also just ahead of Songs from the Wood)
