From the first time I heard the song, Cross Eyed Mary, I just couldn't help thinking that she had become cross eyed because of lots, and lots of sex... Maybe Ian had that in mind when he wrote about her... I wouldn't think cross eyes equate with having more than your fair share of carnal knowledge somehow, more like a twist of fate and a genetic "mishap" which IA noticed, if indeed the character of Mary is/was a real person or character.

It could be both, though I don't think that any of these two different explanations are the right one... Maybe cross eyed Mary is just her nick name, and maybe she got that nick name because of numerous penetrations... maybe not. Maybe she is cross eyed by birth, or maybe not... Whatever we conclude about this, imagination has taken over... There is no real evidence about this to be found in the lyrics...

My favorite song on the album: Hi WhoseLineFan. Great to have a young Jethro Tull fan on the Jethro Tull Forum. My youngest daughter was also born in the year of 1999, but have no interest in Jethro Tull whatsoever... I hope that you feel welcome, and I'm looking forward to reading your future posts!

Apologies to Benny Goodman and Ian Anderson... It wasn't my idea video by pixleshifter A mashup between Benny Goodman’s “After You’ve Gone” and Jethro Tull’s “Aqualung.” You know that feeling when a little bit of sick comes up in your mouth I like mixing and mash-ups there's some great ones that's not one of them. I even thought what if your not familiar with Aqualung but the vocals do not in any shape or form work.

It seemed ok for a few moments and got more tedious... More of a satire in general. Still, if you have a few drinks it might make a little more sense... or not. Ok alot more drinks!

“AQUALUNG" RELEASED BY JETHRO TULL (3/19/1971) Today marks the 45th anniversary of the release of one of rock and roll’s most important and beloved albums, Aqualung by Jethro Tull. Departing from its predominant blues rock groove, Tull established the sound that would define it evermore – a mix of acoustic folk and progressive, hard and psychedelic rock styles, with varying tempos and intensity. It is the group’s best selling album.

www.nj.com/entertainment/index.ssf/2016/04/jethro_tull_aqualung.htmlJethro Tull guitarist: Asbury, Teaneck shows | Jersey RetroMartin Barre, former guitarist for Jethro Tull, is scheduled to perform in New York on April 10, Asbury Park on April 12 and Teaneck on April 22. Photo of Barre by Kelby Anderko. By Mark Voger | NJ Advance Media for NJ.com on April 08, 2016 at 6:32 PM, updated April 08, 2016 at 6:47 PM Classic rock fans still sometimes pause when the guitar solo from "Aqualung" comes on. Yes, we've heard Jethro Tull's 1971 song a thousand times before, but we still marvel at the solo's poetry, its economy, its emotion, and at the virtuosity of its player. His name is Martin Barre. He was Jethro Tull's guitarist for 43 years — a long time for any gig — starting in 1968. Post-Tull, the British guitarist, 69, has concentrated on his solo career, which brings him to New York on Sunday, Asbury Park on Tuesday and Teaneck on April 22. Barre's upcoming shows brought me back to a conversation I once had with the guitarist on the subject of his "Aqualung" solo. It seems the solo that fans know so well might have been botched, had Barre not made a split-second decision during an awkward moment while recording the song. "Aqualung," the album of the same title, was recorded at Island Records' studio in London in late 1970, into early '71. "They had a big, huge room upstairs, and then another studio underneath in the basement," Barre told me in 2003. "At the time we were doing 'Aqualung,' Led Zeppelin were in the studio below. I mean, very often, if one band was playing, the other one wasn't able to, because the leak from one room to the other was a bit off-putting," Barre added with a laugh. who just hadn't appeared. "The day came when I was doing the solo for 'Aqualung.' And, I mean, in those days, if you hadn't gotten it in two or three takes, you weren't gonna get it. There were no more attempts at it. So they ran the tape, and it was my first run at the solo. It was going quite well. At that point, Jimmy Page walked into the control room and started waving at me. And I thought, 'Well, I can either stop playing and wave back, or I can totally ignore him and try and get to the end of the solo.' So I thought, 'I'll just go to the end of the solo.' "And that was the take. It was the first take, and it was all one go, live." So the next time you hear "Aqualung" on the radio, think of Martin Barre dissing Jimmy Page. My God: Jethro Tull’s ‘Aqualung’ really IS an album that you MUST hear before you die In 2016, Jethro Tull is one of those utterly amazing bands that is—sadly—very difficult to explain to those for whom they seem to hold no obvious appeal. Although once one of the very biggest concert draws in the world of music—and don’t get me wrong, they’re still a popular group—their fanbase is getting older each year and I don’t think it’s exactly getting any bigger with the passing of time. But for the sake of “the young people” who are reading this I’m going to try to get across why I think Jethro Tull are so great and why they deserve your attention. The occasion is Rhino’s re-release of their classic 1971 longplayer Aqualung, an album that I’m absolutely nuts about, on a 2 CD/2 DVD box set. I hope my enthusiasm will be contagious enough that you’ll give it a listen yourself.

For a poor, homeless guy...Old Aqualung has generated a lot of money for Tull and record companies and concert promoters...subtract Aqualung from Tull history/catalog and we would really be talking about an obscure, cult band. Viva Aqualung...even if I really don't need to hear another live song ever. ( well, looking forward to 'Wind-Up' on current tour).
