Hi All
First time poster here - I did try trawling this forum for the answer but couldn't find it, apologies if it's already been answered somewhere!
A friend of mine mentioned a Jethro Tull recording he once had many years ago and lost, and would love to have it again. It's his birthday coming up and thought it would be a nice surprise if I can get hold of it. The only information I have to go on however, is that it is a Jethro Tull live performance, at a concert hall (I think) in Italy, and at the very start of the recording/performance, the Master of Ceremonies/announcer says something like "Ladies and gentlemen, an evening in concert with Jethro Tull." Something like that. If anyone could point me in the right direction or even has any ideas, that would be amazing. I know that's not much information to go on, I *might* be able to get some more, but I doubt it.
Anyway, thanks very much for even taking the time to read this!

If the announcer started with an French introduction including the words "bienvenuto Italia" then in accented English "Good evening, sit back, relax and make yourself comfortable to enjoy an evening with ... JETHRO TULL!! Jethro Tull". Then it was Claude Nobs, the promoter, introducing Tull on their live 2LP/CD set "Bursting Out". Available almost everywhere. BTW Ian Anderson dedicated the 2003 CD remastering to Claude.

Xander Sounds as if it might well be the "Bursting Out" 2 CD release Weredwulf as Corner of the sphere says. In the mean time, welcome along to the Forum and if you can get any further info as to whether it was an official release or a bootleg feel free to post it here.

Hi Guys,
Cheers for that, I previewed the intro on Amazon and it does indeed sound like what he's after so I ordered it, it's his birthday on the 1st April so I'll find out then for sure! Previewed some of the other songs on the album, I didn't realise how much bands like Dream Theater and Iron Maiden (who I love) were influenced by Tull, you can really hear it even in a few seconds of listening! My band does proggy Dream Theater influenced stuff, and its funny how our songs have in the long run been influenced by Jethro Tull without even knowing it!!! I'm gonna have to check this stuff out I think :-)
Much appreciated!

Glad to be of help. Iron Maiden covered IA's song "Cross Eyed Mary" which was the B side to their 1983 single "The Trooper" and the song was included on the 1995 reissue of the album.
Bruce Dickinson has been quoted as saying
"A guy called Arthur Brown... was a big influence of mine... and also Ian Anderson from Jethro Tull."

I recall Bursting Out to have been recorded a few different places in Europe, but I might be wrong, could well be one show. It being Claude Nobs I just assumed all these years that intro was from Montreux, he is sort of Mr Montreux I think. For all I know he promotes elsewhere in Europe too. But yes, Italy is mentioned in the intro. And later Ian notices the American boys.

Funny....on the 'A' tour I snuck into a soundcheck in Dortmund and Ian pegged me as an American and an interloper in milliseconds and had me tossed out the side door in no time...think the flannel shirt, dark, long hair and frisbee I was studiously twirling as a prop to show i was relaxed and belonged in there might have given me away? Happy ending...it was festival seating...I was alone and ended up in the front few rows anyway...what a great tour that was ( see 'Slipstream')
