I'm not sure if they have been previously published... Ian Anderson - NAMM Oral History Program Interview By NAMM Foundation Ian Anderson grew up in England during the 1960s and had a long list of guitar heroes who inspired him to play music. However, he found the power of people like Eric Clapton to be disconcerting, as young Ian felt inferior next to such guitar gods. He felt his best chances to success in rock was to play an instrument that Clapton did not play and so he found his way to the flute. Ian’s ear and passion for music allowed the otherwise non-rock instrument to not only fit in, but to become an influence. He formed the innovative rock group Jethro Tull, recorded a string of best selling albums and toured the world. Ian Anderson - Skating Away - With Earth & Each Other segment By David Weisberg Conceived of by David Weisberg, and originally aired November 14, 2010 and produced by Friends of the Arava Institute and Atlanta Interfaith Broadcasting as part of, the special "With Earth & Each Other" global broadcast promoting cross border environmental cooperation in the Middle East. This segment featuring Ian Anderson of Jethro Tull was filmed backstage at the ampitheatre in Caesaria, Israel.

Second art of the interview to be broadcast today (22nd) This first part of the interview mentioned Ian's involvement with becoming a patron of The Oak and Furrows Wildlife Rescue in Wiltshire and some general chit chat so no info re Stand Up.

A certain one legged flute player is on holiday soon, taking his good lady wife to exotic (ie sunny) parts of the planet where he will do his usual "thing" and take along various acoustic instruments, small mini disc/midi/whatever they are these days, and plenty of pens and paper and write some new songs etc in hotel room.

If you can catch it on television or the internet, I recommend the 2016 BBC documentary entitled: "When Pop Went Epic...The Crazy World of the Concept Album".
It is hosted by Rick Wakeman and features, for a couple of minutes, interviews with Ian Anderson and, also, the frontmen for Marillion and The Flaming Lips.
The years from 1948 to the present are covered, with an emphasis on 1970's progressive rock.
Unfortunately, the show is only one hour long, so many important artists and their albums could not be included.

Very impressive, eclectic, vitamin-filled songlist. Not sure about Meatloaf - many people rate him highly but not really to my taste at all. On a different tack, BBC Radio 6 have repeats of programmes about Sandy Denny and Nick Drake this weekend. They'll be broadcast overnight for us unlucky s0ds here in the UK but other countries may be able to hear them at a more civilised time of day. Then there's always the listen again function. . . .

An interesting playlist from Ian Anderson on the Radio 6 show. I was surprised to see and hear that IA liked McArthur Park though I realise that he has also recorded it with John Cooper Clarke & Hugh Cornwall. Wonder if anyone else thinks that the end jazzy part of the original version sounds just a little Jethro Tullish..... I think it sounds a bit like parts of "TAAB" though it may actually be another track.
The section that is similar starts around 09.50 in the show and runs for about a minute..

Yes there are certainly similarities. It was released in early 1968 so IA would have possibly heard it on the radio although not many times as at 7 minutes in length the BBC would have probably only played it on the evening shows, Radio Luxembourg not all and the offshore stations, apart from Radio Caroline, had been silenced the previous year.
