Duration: 30 minutes
Ian Anderson's widely recognised as the man who introduced the flute to rock music.
Born in Dunfermline in 1947 he attended primary school in Edinburgh before his family moved south to Blackpool. Following a Grammar school education Ian went to Art College before embarking on a career as a musician.
Jethro Tull was formed in 1968 and first performed at London's famous Marquee Club. The band have gone on to perform at over 3000 concerts in over 40 countries.
Along with the flute Ian plays whistles, acoustic guitars and mandolin.
In recent years Ian has toured more and more under his own name and has recorded four solo albums. He's about to embark on a 19 date tour to commemorate the 40th Anniversary of the Jethro Tull album 'Thick as a Brick'. His Scottish dates are in Perth on 14th April and Glasgow on 15th April.
Tom Morton talks to Ian about his love of the flute, his passion for performing and his newly recorded album Thick as a Brick 2 and they listen to some songs from the Tull repertoire.

I wonder where this leaves IA and his investment in Planet Rock? From radiotoday.co.uk/2012/09/loss-making-station-planet-rock-for-sale/Loss-making station Planet Rock for sale 25/09/2012
Malcolm Bluemel, the owner of Planet Rock, is reportedly looking for a buyer for his national digital radio station.
He’s ran the station since buying it from GCap Media in 2008, and has since invested £3m of his own money which The Guardian says is losing between £200,000 and £300,000 a year.
Four potential buyers have shown an interest, according to the report, in which Malcolm said: “Digital radio has come of age and Planet Rock is at the forefront of that.
“I have put four and a half years of my life into this and £3m of my own money. Some people might say that I was lucky to have it in the first place, but I am not going to walk away from that lightly.”
One potential bidder could be the new TEAMROCK service started by John Myers and Billy Anderson. But Myers told us: “At that level of losses it’s hard to determine value – if any.”
The station has just under a million listeners according to the latest RAJAR figures.

Exchanged a few e-mails with my friend who has a weekly, syndicated radio show called 'Dead the the World' and we are planning our second Tull-fest hour ( well....75-90 minutes) sometime soon. Most likely all of TAAB one and then highlights of TAAB 2...with focus on most sequel-rooted material ( Pebbles, Old School Song, Shunt and Shuffle, Horses and Kismet-What If finale is my tentative plan). Details to follow.

In my estimation, that man, David Gans, occupies a nearly identical position of importance to Deadheads as David Rees does to Tullies, though admittedly the Dead needed alot less help, nevertheless each have been valuable aids to the cause for close to 30 years. I do hope Mr Gans has made some time for TAAB2, and further, that he likes it! Of course nearly in agreement with you on the notion of a hoped for "benevolent dictator", personally I bristle more than a little when I hear referenced "the intelligence of the American electorate".

Just listened to a slightly surreal (my word) and technically plagued interview with Martin Barre on an outside broadcast from the Devon County Show on BBC Radio Devon. The programme was 3 hours in duration and Martin was on the last half hour, or so + technical pauses. I'll post the "listen again" facility below and my thanks to OI for emailing me the information - thanks. www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/p0181m3x
