From Dave Rees at the AND facebook page
"Good grief! ANOTHER one?!? Yes indeed, #119 is packed to the rafters with our new, exclusive interview with Ian Anderson, who talks about Jethro Tull (the band), Jethro Tull (the man), Jethro Tull (the rock opera) ...and new tracks, unreleased tracks, Led Zeppelin, The Stranglers, Ryan O'Donnell... and Syrian refugees, global warming, "bloody photographers" and...and... well, you get the picture! Out soon."

Good news....just got and gobbled the last two via Kindle and will hover for this one as well. AND forever, please. No matter how cyberspace replaces print, nothing replaces the relationships Rees and Webb built with Tull. AND should be forever acknowledged in Tull history.

Issue #119 out now and available from your on line vendors/corner newspaper seller. OK I lied about the corner newspaper seller. An exhaustive interview with a certain flute player named Ian, some details of Too Old . . ., thoughts on Poldark, the JT Rock Opera and some additional songs for the project and some rather small photos of a grumpy Old Webby*. *Next time Dave, they should be bigger or email them to me and I'll make sure they're posted here - credit where credit is due

Dunno about D Rees but pretty sure M Webb looks in on us now and again....the newspaper articles via Kindle are sadly ineffective...the technology does not allow magnification of the page and the size/format of the printed page via Kindle leaves us with a nice photo of an unreadable press artifact. AND still worth every penny without this aspect of any individual issue...but still...might there be a way to slap this into shape ?

Grumpy Old Webby tells me he's mentioned the above to Dave R and hopefully, if GOW is not in a Grump, he'll let me know the outcome shortly. Oh and GOW informs me that in the latest edition of Rock 'n' Reel there is an article about Mick Abrahams as well as the piece on IA. GOW wrote the article on Big Mick by the way. [Message to GOW - hope the check is in the post about mentioning the above]

I just got a kindle recently and one of my first purchases has been this latest edition of AND and indeed what a fine interview lies therein. If I may just post a couple of Ian quotes from it ( please don't sue ...not even the small claims court..I'm very poor) On the subject of DVD's (old hat) streaming and Netflix; "..even I can now stream Better Call Saul while my wife watches Casualty. I just put on my noise-cancelling, in-ear headphones and sit and watch it on the 'big screen'- with the laptop on my chest and my reading glasses on it looks like the big screen. (laughs)
On Poldark (I don't know who he's referring to*) TV dramas v DVD's * jethrotull.proboards.com/post/56576 "..You know, if we're middle aged and female we're not gonna get our kicks by buying the new Barry Manilow music DVD, we're gonna watch Plodlark we'regonna watch that stuff because it delivers what we want once a week ...
I've watched a couple of Dolpark episodes;........a little bit of titillation - not even close to sexy but just enough to stiffen the nipple of some matronly type who fancies a bit of rough (laughter all round)

He (Anderson) really makes some very good points in this latest interview - if you haven't read it yet you really should.
He's bloody annoying as well. He almost always cuts through the crap and hits the nail on most things done with a great interest in his chosen topic, with wisdom, panache and humour.
I just hope that he is a curmudgeonly, bad tempered old git - it would balance out!!
All that aside, his point about the death of terrestrial TV is spot on. I pay a licence fee (£12.12) a month for something I don't watch. I only watch Sky Arts and Sky Atlantic for the great TV dramas where, as he says, all the talent now lies. I get the news online and I've long given up on Corrie and Eastenders.
Oh I forgot... occasionally, very occasionally ITV or the BBC will out bring something like Poldark.

Quite probably one of the best issues published for a long time. Obviously publicising the TOTRnR 40th Anniversary edition, Christmas concerts, a long interview with Martin including the revelation of a "live" double disc DVD shot in Munich which he hopes to issue soon, some very positive "Opera" reviews and a few pics of Dave Rees' wedding and finally the following half page piece about Steven Wilson which explains what's happening next and should allay any rumours or doubt about the existence of "Pancake Doomsday" Steven Wilson is an extraordinarily busy man. Lord knows how he ever finds time to sleep, let alone watch football. Fortunately he remains committed to the Jethro Tull reissues programme - including retracing steps back to 1969 to rectify a glaring omission.
Yes folks, a remixed Stand Up is planned for mid-2016, with Warners currently combing the archives for any hitherto hidden unreleased gems. The reissues schedule will be back on track with a Steven Wilson mix of Songs From The Wood (plus extras) currently envisaged for around November 2016. And for those of you who can't wait that long, there are plans afoot - still to be 100% confirmed - to rerelease Aqualung in March/April 2016. 'Wot - again??' I hear you say. Yes, but this time it will be (a) at a price that even non-Premiership footballers can afford, (b) will be repackaged into the now customary 'book' form, and (c) might even have some extra goodies certainly some Steven Wilson 5.1 mixes of the previous package's bonus tracks. Watch this space.
One track that won't be included, however, is Pancake Doomsday, which Steven Wilson revealed had been found back in 2011. Wilson did try to make a silk purse out of it, but lan Anderson has stood firm in vetoing it. However, this is no great cause for wailing and gnashing of teeth, as it's actually merely an early attempt at a pretty basic backing track for what eventually became Saturation, released on the 1988 20 Years Of box set. So actually, we do all in effect have Pancake Doomsday, aka Saturation, and only those with a compulsion to collect every cough, splutter and bottom burp by lan Anderson need fret.

According to Dave Rees - "out next week" My copy arrived today. Like the last issue it's very informative as usual and has an exhaustive interview with Greig Robinson about his formative years, performing with the band and even what bass guitar strings he uses. (Surely a first for AND - Forum contents Editor) Plus some reviews of concerts from as far apart as Istanbul and St Albans, a two page interview with Davy O'List and IA's and MB's 2016 tour dates. So all in all another fine issue from a magazine which, to be perfectly honest, did seem to lose its way somewhat last year with the standard of writing from some of the non staff contributors, but the ship has now thankfully steadied itself again around the stewardship of DR and Old Webby. Little did I know when I replied to DR's small advert in Sounds about issue #1 back in 1985 (?) that it would still be with us with issue #123.

Long may they run.....I was introduced to AND by Gerrit De Geus in Hamburg. He was so impressed with me and my friend's silly little 'Tull Museum' business card that he dragged us to the AND booth and made introductions. Must have been October 87.

I've still got your calling card btw. You know, I'm now firmly convinced we met all those years ago in that pub in Hammersmith otherwise how would I have got your card? Good times.

Anyone had a chance to get the latest copy of the A New Day magazine (no. 128)? (I download mine on my Amazon Kindle). Interesting interviews with Jeffrey Hammond and Dee Palmer. I thought the interview with Dee was excellent.

Goes to make up for the rather "dodgy" editions with "guest" contributors over the last year or so. As someone who has supported the magazine since its inception in '85 (?) I hope that AND returns to its previous standards and also reverts back to its independent views which it had when it first began publication, a practice that has slipped recently.

Oops, sorry about that. I know I have a tendency to repeat myself nowadays but had not realised I had got that bad. I will delete one of the comments..

Thanks for the heads up on Kindle availability. Just bought it and plan to spend first portion of work day reading it. This disclosure is 'no lose'....if any of my bosses read our Tull forum, they will understand...otherwise they can kiss my bitter and underpaid ass.
