Thats a pity about these old travelling fun fairs - they sucked the magic and wonder out of them and made them a bit tacky - not that I've been to The Hoppings so I don't know but I've been to some of them in other parts of England/Scotland. It's nice to see smaller independent rural fun fairs/circuses starting up that have a different ethos and a bit more of the original feel. www.giffordscircus.com/"Giffords are a traditional progressive circus, meaning their setup incorporates all the beauty of a traditional circus without the animal cruelty. The animals in the show were their own horses and birds, trained and loved and happy.

Thanks snaffler, I'm pleased you liked it. Yes, it does a lot to promote Durham City but there's already talk of the event not ahead next year due to cost. same old, same old.

Excellent photos and slide show Bunkerfan - many thanks. Strangely enough I did not recognise my hone town initially though my kids had told me about all about the light show. Made me quite homesick as I am based in Tunis and only get home every 3 or 4 months !
A little bit of trivia here about Durham City and Tull. Years back I went up to South Shields to watch Mick Abrahams and other musicians (including Clive Bunker) perform an evening of early Tull music. I remember there was come controversy over the concert title at the time as folk might have thought it was the real Tull (and actually it was 50% of the original Tull). I spent much of the night talking to Mick Abrahams son and later on Mick himself. Both really nice guys and good company. They mentioned to me that they were staying at Mick's sisters house at Framwellgate moor and said they often came up to visit her and that they both loved visiting Durham.

Thanks stevep, That sound like some night at South Shields, I wish I'd been there. I'll have to investigate about Mick's sister living at Framwellgate moor 'cause my sister lives at Pity Me, I'll have a word with her and see if she knows anything. I'm going to Durham on Friday, I'll raise a glass to you in The Shakespeare.

After sustained pressure from maddogfagin and nonrabbit to post this photo I've finally given in. This was taken in 1973 outside The Empire Pool Wembley when me and acoustic1 were there for the Passion Play concert. acoustic1 is on the right and I'm the strange long haired thing in the orange jacket. .........Happy days

Dress yourself that night John or parents afraid you'd be hit by a car or shot at by a hunter if not brightly clothed?

;D It's a great pic - I've drawn my eyes away from your jacket ( sleeves) and I'm now curious as to the crooked hasty positioning of the Tull APP signs and what looks like Bacofoil running down the length of the building edited to say Bacofoil/ Turin shroud with the image of Ian

I've been digging through some of my photographs taken in the winter over the last couple of years and made a little slideshow, with of course a Jethro Tull track to accompany it, and as it's coming up to Christmas here's 'Another Christmas Song' Enjoy.

Love the slide show....don't like the song...almost forgot it existed. Well I like it. Nice slide show John, Bernie's only jealous 'cos he live where it's sunny all year round and doesn't get a chance to have a really good snow ball fight.

Was 'oop norrrth' of here last month - happened across these Swaledale sheep. What I liked about the scenario was the one dissenting fella - that didn't follow like.... er.... sheep!

The King's Cross fire on the underground rail system in London. It broke out at approximately 19:30 on 18 November 1987, and killed 31 people.
