I was expecting a musically pretty good show with Ian struggling to sing..
Gotta say He managed admirably and it sounded spot on, there was the occasional glitch but on the whole excellent
I mean no disrespect as anyone who has spent 40 years touring and singing will not sound the same as they did in the 70's.
Musically the show was excellent. Visually good too
BUT stage presence ??... David Goodier has 15 microns more than Jon Noyce's ZERO and No6 as Ian referred to him, performed
Splendidly whilst looking like a grey haired J Noyce but with more movement and a Xylophone.
John O'Hara is an extremely competent musician in fact much more than that, But out of place...!!
It looked like someone told him Tull keyboard players are slightly eccentric and rebellious
So the ruffled up his hair and wore a shirt with unbuttoned cuffs..... To me he looked like the guy from Flog It - Paul Martin
but with attitude, well slight attitude. That said (ok a bit tongue in cheek) it was ten times better than I expected after
the removal of Andy Giddings as I found him second only to John Evan.
Martin Barre NEVER ceases to amaze, What an under rated Guitarist he is and you can tell he really enjoys it.
He should most definitely rate in the best ever top 10. In 40 years I have attended many Tull shows and never seen him under perform once.
And Doane Perry was as ever knocking 10 bells of ... out of the drum set, Nice solo spot on Dharma.. just right not too long.
The set list is at the bottom........ But 1st the way forward ( my personal thought)
Jethro Tull still have a great deal to offer and It is possible to even take a leap back in time performance wise
Ian needs to hire a Vocalist... OK not for the whole vocal content of the show and even on some numbers verses could be shared alternately.
With Mr or Ms Vocal X doing the long or demanding numbers whilst Ian concentrated more on Flute or Guitar / Mandolin even Klagghorn
This would open up the prospects of performing some rarer or never performed songs.
IF he could persuade, Definitely Jeffrey HH and even Clive and John Evan to come along, Then a 2010 tour of REBRICK would be possible
The full 1972 show for those who saw it - missed it or are unable to remember it.. I saw it And I can remember it and it was TULL at their
pinnacle and with a Vocalist on board to share the load This would be a great possibility...
Guests to read the news and weather, Sloane Ranger intro & outro to A New day Yesterday, Hot headed General.... The whole works
Ending with Dambusters / Land of Hope and glory finale.
BUT PLEASE NO BRICK DIGITAL REMASTER. (re writing the lyrics to fit with the state of life in 2008 would be an idea though)
The one thing I keep hearing is how people feel ripped of with the many remasters
REBRICK the tour ....... 4 nights London 4 in Manchester 4 in Newcastle & 4 in Edinburgh
Film it for DVD and As sure as Eggs is Eggs I bet they would have to at least double the dates to cope with demand
then take it to the USA & Germany, A massive Tull resurgence for Ian to eventually close the book on....
if he is thinking of actually hanging up the cod piece for good.
