Daughter would have loved that! She stayed with someone who unfortunately didn't go out much in the evenings ;D so didn't have the greatest of suggestions for her. D said that she had to hear some blues in Chicago so they went to B.L.U.E.S. not sure what reputation that has maybe for the tourists? She said that their were some beautiful brick tenement apartments that reminded her of the huge flats in West End of Glasgow. Put it this way Ray no way will there be any visits from any of us in either direction without some meet up. Ok I know your neck of the woods is a million times bigger than ours but we'll sort something out.

Patti I am not much of a nightowl these days either, but in my case as a result of financial constraints as opposed to mere older age. That is a perfectly fine blues club, there are not really any tourist related ones in the blues or jazz department. The Checkerboard Lounge, Palm Tavern, joints on 47th st where one could see Muddy Waters, Howlin Wolf, Willie Dixon and lots of other legends are long since gone. Doubtless the main blues club in the city over the past 20 years or so is Buddy Guy's place, not too far from downtown. Another long standing one on the north side, run by a guy I knew from high school who inherited it from his Father, had Ian Anderson as a visitor maybe 10 years ago. This guy Frank was pretty sure it was him and asked him and Ians response was "guilty as charged" so yeah, I think that was him. All kinds of celebrities go to that joint and Buddy Guys, right up to the likes of Michael Jordan. Back when Ian was young and the Checkerboard was still around he had been told that it was unsafe for a white boy to go to that part of town, and, I'm afraid that was sound advice. The Stones would go there in limos with Muddy so that was a different story. I mean some white people went there for sure, though not many, and certainly one of many dangerous parts of town. Our impressions on the word "tenament' may be entirely different, I have to believe maybe she was referring to the lovely structures on Lake Shore Drive and elsewhere, as our public housing tenaments, most now happily demolished, would never have been confused with having architectural merit. The type of places, as in the infamous Cabrini Green project, where an elder lady did not go out of her apartment at or near the top for 10 years out of fear of activities in the building and its environs. Very well based fear I might add. I respect very much David Gans and Bernies perspective on not wishing time away, something that really rang a bell of truth to me in my years in the financials where that was habitual behavior on the part of most employees. Often it has crossed my mind of how very old or very dead I would be had those moments actually disapeared. However if I could switch lives with Gans it would be ever so much easier to put that theory into practice. The idea of never having worked a day in a long time or ever crossed my mind, a policy by which I believe it is much easier to maintain that perspective.

OK, this has nothing to do with the prior posts and I'm tired of looking around for the thing by which one starts a new thread, seems like logically it might fall under new topics here on proboard, and that is the extent of checking I care to do at this hour. Is there anyone else here who has an interest in or knowledge of San Francisco's The Residents? This here I suspect is one of their handful of most well known pieces. Even if you don't know who they are you might be aware of this band where all the members, at least for 30 years or so, wore eyeballs over their heads and their actual identity was never revealed though I thought I heard they had changed that a few years ago maybe not. Anyway pretty much always fist class odd. I recall having a room mate in 79 or 80 when this was a pretty new record who would constantly play this, the first buzzcocks record and the first b 52's record, occasionally reverting back to his prog self and playing family, he had gotten cold on tull, and he nearly always was wearing a dog collar and standard punk crap.sometimes i wanted to hurt him, but that was as much because he was not too reliable with the rent. Except when he and his brother would slip into their holy man rolls in these white robes, in fact his name from whatever thing he was dealin on, i remember he had gurdgief books, was nityananda, though his given name was tony. we called him nit. while in his holy man robes with his brother they would frequently be doing about 7 quaaludes, and he was a little guy. unfortunately in feb 80 he did about 9 and...endgame. anyway he was in most part a good guy. i love the first 2 responses to this video on you tube, at least first two as i write this. u have to endure a 15 second ad, but otherwise pretty cool. youtu.be/fcI5rNR5TGM

One of the Residents, an actual band member or maybe just a constant behind the scenes collaborator, was a local musician on the scene named Eric somebody...i forget his real last name, he was super multi-talented and smart and came from Austria...he often used the alias: 'N. Seneda' when he produced and or played on various other early punk/SF scene records like the mutants, toiling midgets, flipper etc etc...i wish i could remember his name...went to a wake/party at his home in the mission after he died....a surprise heart attack...he was a smoker and drinker but not a super bad boy...probably a congenital weak heart.
I remember negotiating early punk...trying to have it both ways...Once i met a girl at some hellish gig at the mab (Dead Kennedys, MDC) and, over the noise established she would be happier at a nearby club where the Dinosaurs were playing ( Hunter,Cippolina, barry melton and others of that ilk)...so we went....I had long hair at the mab...she had punk regalia at Wolfgang's where we saw the dinosaurs.....got lucky that night!

The guy i knew was Phillip Lithman (RIP)...I think their genre was smart guys who knew they should channek their progginess into punk...got some attention for concept punk albums...or general concept-ness, cool costumes, wild gigs....hadn't heard or thought of them for awhile. KISS for triple digit IQs

It is said that one of their most famous hits, ‘One Brown Mouse’ was written here. The band has sold over 30 million albums worldwide." "it is said" ;D They were in good company as well if you look at the history link - Miss Whiplash

(thread hijack) Keith Richards has names for his guitars. If you have a few extra minutes to contribute to social rejuvenation, give names to the Tull instruments.

Ye Gods !! things to make you feel past it ... When your kids buy tickets for a reunion of a band from their era aka Stone Roses. Son and daughter managed to get tickets for the up and (re) coming shows in Manchester. Interesting piece about reunions and bands reforming www.guardian.co.uk/music/2011/oct/22/stone-roses-reunion?newsfeed=true"..Twenty years ago I would have agreed. Then the income of musicians I loved never crossed my mind, unless it was as a vague and misguided idea that if you've made one or two classic albums, then you're set for life. But that's not how it works, especially now that collapsing back catalogue sales have to be juiced with fancy boxsets..""....Only a lucky, gifted handful of artists motor on into middle age and beyond, creative engines still humming. The rest hit their 30s with the sense that their best years are behind them...."

Ye Gods....hadn't heard that for years but kid and I saw 'The Music man' on TV while on the road last week complete with teenage girl who says 'ye gods' all the time.
I'm on a bad luck streak...don't get near me, it might be contagious....got a speeding ticket on the way to Portland, a redlight ticket on the way home, a fare evasion ticket on our local rapid transit and a $6,000.00 back tax bill from 2009....f**k....money I do not have!!!!!!!!
