Well just got back to the 'back o' beyond' - Ireland, after the Glasgow gig. Just a quick update and apologies in advance - cause I've got loads to say about it ...groan.... This was my first Tull concert for many years and I don't remember sharing a stage with Anderson and Barre at the last one but this time I was!! ( well 3rd row actually in a beautiful small Hall with great acoustics! BUT it felt as tho I was on the stage with them ) Anderson came out and said that we have a special guest - a bloke from Glasgow by the name of David Ward MacLean and he will play a few songs for you ! David comes out, mid fifties, grey hair tied up in ponytail and an old faithful guitar. He looked at the audience and said 'Your're suprised! -what the hell do you think I am?' Turned out to be a busker from York that Ian had asked if he would like to play in Glasgow with them . What a brilliant sound he had too, sweet sweet voice, and brilliant on the guitar. Anderson / Goodier stayed on stage and roadied for him - joking while they fetched his guitar and fixed his mike. He then played 3 songs of his own and said it was a dream come true ! That was the start of a truly great show more on the show later !!

After the gig had a wee chat with 'Macleen', as Tom Lynch called him, and he gave me his myspace url. He replied to my PM to say he was doing the Sheffield gig as well (now added to the MOI page). Asked Ian if there was a guest at Carlisle and he said there was but he couldn't remember who. Obviously isn't anybody famous... Fantastic gig though. I was front row, just right of the aisle. Perfect for getting a spray of saliva from the claghorn Doane's Dharma solo was excellent, and it was great to hear them playing LOUD again, even if it drowned out Ian.

As said previously this was my first Tull show in years. So glad I picked this one to come back! Anderson/Barre are in great form. Loved to see their enthusiasim after all this time. Barre still gives a shy smile when his solo's are rightly cheered as if he were new to the whole thing. What a gobsmackin player of the guitar he is !!! I was happy for the early nostalgia of the first few songs and they sounded fresh. A New Day Yesterday sounded particularly great and a few people stood up at the end incl myself (had to do it in 2 stages mind..ah the advancing years of the ageing Tull fan) Thought maybe Tull fans should push each other from behind like a Geriatric Mexican Shove !! Enjoyed Bouree although not one of my favs on record but impressive Live. Nursie was beautiful with a good arrangement at the end. I didn't know what to expect about Ian's voice after reading and digesting Tull over the last 9 months or so on various boards - but guess what I never noticed!! Maybe a slight sabbatical for the jaded ear is a good thing - can't tell you just how great all of Tull is the second time around! All too quickly the countdown to the final segment and of course I was rocking to them all Slight niggles - over too quickly, perhaps more songs and O'Hara - sounded good but perhaps just a little 'too cool and composed'?? PS What happened to wanting to stand at the front of the aisle @ concerts - when did it become illegal

I'd forgotten about the poor guy being asked to return to his seat! Unbelievable!
