Hi Quizz.
I definitely prefer the real thing. Another ecological connundrum, I guess, but I read awhile back that if you buy local, from a dedicated tree farm, and you dispose of it well, it's about a toss-up with having a plastic one that you use every year (considering manufacturing and the fact that the plastic gives off small amounts of toxic gasses)
No easy answers from me!
Nonrabbit, as for savory pies the only ones common in the US are pot pies (chicken, turkey, beef) which are chunks of meat and veggies - that's our only holdover. Mince pies rarely have meat in them. But I'm a bit of a medievalist and I've cooked some ancient relatives on my own (I mean, relatives of the modern pies!!).
As for the eels, though, I have a feeling that's something you need to be raised on to be able to deal with - maybe like White Castle Hamburgers!

Had me worried there for a second, rebecca... But then maybe it's just my mindset...I've cast similar thoughts toward some of my own relatives... Too bad I missed the pie question. I would take any kind of pie over cake any day, especially the savory ones. Now as for nonrabbit's question: hmmm, maybe the last one. If I were a being capable of traveling all the way to this planet, I would take one look around, figure it wasn't the best place to bring the kids, and go look elsewhere. Next question.....what do you do in your down time? Have a hobby or favorite pastime?

In my downtime, which has now increased with a recent lay-off, I run a website for geeky Rush fans such as myself (link in my signature) and produce videos chronicling a banner that we pass off from show to show when the band tours. I'm also into photography (some of my best pics are, again, in my sig). I guess my new hobby while not working will be getting the house ready for baby.
I like that question, let's get some more answers! what do you do in your down time? Have a hobby or favorite pastime?

Really sorry to hear about the lay-off, I hope it's short lived [unless of course you want it that way]. For me it's drawing and painting, spent that last 20 years wishing for an art studio and am currently now about two or three weeks work away from having it finished in my loft. Nice gig photo's by the way, I try my hand occasionally at knocking out a few snaps, my younger brother does it professionally [he has some Rush images on his website I think ] and it's a bloody hard life as far as I can see, so photography will stay a hobby for me.

Congratulations on the upcoming baby from me too, get some sleep NOW, you're gonna need it ;D My little free time is spent doing this forum and plunking fairly amateurishly on me ol' gee-tar. I get together with some friends every other week in a rehearsal studio and bash out a few covers but none of the rest of them like Tull so unfortunately there's none of that..........bunch of philistines!! (probably a good thing really, we'd murder them!) Next question, which bands are you a completist and have to have every album by?

Next question, which bands are you a completist and have to have every album by? good question: For me, other than Tull, an odd bunch: The Beatles; Aimee Mann; Kate Bush; David Bowie; Roxy Music; Cat Stevens; The Jam; Kaiser Chiefs; The Lightning Seeds; The Who/Townshend; REM; Close to complete XTC; The Manic Street Preachers. My question - Indian or chinese food?

My answer is...the Professor, of course. He could make anything out of a coconut, and was handsome to boot. Stephen King once said you could analyze every American male by asking if he prefers Betty or Veronica. So that's my question. The wise will answer Betty.

It's been a while since I read my Archie comics, but if the dark haired one was betty, then it's betty. Ok another american comics one Dick Grayson...better as Robin or Nightwing?

You don't still read them? I can't imagine why.
Well, er, Veronica is the dark haired one. Vain, spoiled, cranky Veronica. As opposed to sweet, resourceful, intelligent, competent Betty, you see! Bets is the girl you can take anywhere and do anything with, while Veronica will just complain you're messing up her makeup. She did have better hair, though.
Personally, I think Dick Grayson is better as Nightwing. I'm not really all that nuts about the concept of having a Robin, although having him graduate to be Nightwing makes it worth it.
I don't know what to ask. To the next person, what question do you feel like answering? Name it and answer it!

my hobby (for that is all it is at the moment - unfortunately) is writing but like most people here I'm distracted by cyberspace. I am currently padding out one of my short stories into a novel and it will take forever! Has anyone here majored in How to Cope with Procrastination!!... (I'll leave you to put in the punchline ) Mind you I have a great idea for a script about people who get together on a web Forum and then meet up !! (a bit like Sleepless in Seattle was for the 80's with all the talk of emails etc etc).... Yes!! - Sleepless in Seattle MEETS 'B'movie horror film with Tull music !!!!!!!!!!!

A quick thanks for the baby congrats, steelmonkey and Col. Still a couple of months from learning the sex, but the first ultrasound is next week. Should be cool!
As for the question at hand... wait... what is the question at hand? Seems to be that the most recent formal question was the Mary-Anne / Ginger issue. I think it's probably a worldwise issue, not just American men. I remember reading a while back that Gilligan's Islans was the most viewed show in syndication history or something like that.
So, Ginger, or Mary-Anne?

Did you used to see Gilligan's Island when you were a kid? If so, that ought to tap your memory. If not, never mind!

Ginger is the fancy dressing, make-up slathered, beautiful actress..Mary-Anne is the beautiful, natural girl next door. The correct answer is: both, at the same time.

I meant playing scrabble, potty brain! don't go thinking you can take advantage of me because I said I'm not good at scrabble! Even I know that in scrabble you take turns instead of going at the same time. (and it's got nothing to do with the potty - that is not my thing at all) I think it's time for a new question, in honor of my new/old job, where I just discovered that NASCAR (trademark) has an official line of Harlequinn Romances, and I'm going to be reading one! The first line on the back cover is something like "Indie Wilcox's track record with race car drivers was disastrous, as the track marks on her heart bore witness." Would you rather read a western or a romance?

That's like asking if you'd rather have your fingernails or eyelashes pulled out (hey! Maybe that could be the next question...). Given the choices - and it would have to be a danged good romance....I would take that over a Western. A Western just makes me think of heat, dirt, and cactus. And I live that every day. I need escapism..... Let's see... I get this confused with the This or That game. But here, we can just ask a question, right? So...since I am in a music playing mood...can you name the last 5 songs you listened to? I pick the number 5 often because 3 is just too easy, and after 5, people get bored!

You're right, we do tend to wander off the interview into the "this or that" thing. Oh well!
My answer about the books is, it depends. One of the benefits of Westerns is that they tend to be very short, tight, to the point storytelling. And the way women act in romances makes me want to smack 'em! If I had been reading a lot of one, I'd need to switch to the other, and vice versa.
As for the songs, that is hard to remember because I tend to dance around between a certain set of them at any one time. I think right now my set is "Once in a Lifetime" and "burning down the house" and "road to nowhere" because I'm still on my Talking Heads kick, and "Witchita Lineman" done by Glenn Campbell and Maria McKee.
My question: What was the most unusual job you ever had?

Post by bluehare on Feb 14, 2009 17:12:45 GMT
That's why this was such a tough choice. If I did have to read a romance, I do so loathe the bodice rippers. Patooey! They are embarrassing. And I do really want to smack the women. Let's face it. I also want to smack the men. Hard to tell who has the bigger heaving bosoms as the men are often endowed beyond reason in the pectorals... Westerns are tight as you said, and I do love horses....and steely-eyed stares. But the heat....and the dirt....eck! I'm not going to answer your question. It is a really good one, and I swear I am not not trying to put myself down, honest. But I know there are people here who have done some pretty odd things (and I haven't), and I am curious to see who pops up to answer this.

Last 5 songs...all desigend to let 2 4 year old girls jump back and forth over a swinging rope on a rainy day and drain energy:
Who is it-talking heads, mary jane's last dance-petty, white room-cream, summer girl-beck and armado said-wondermints
by they were still hyper....maybe i need to cut back on the cookies and cola between songs!

My most unusual job was working in a chocolate factory - probably my best ever job!! Took the job for a year to pay off debts. Great company to work for - great money - free large bag of assorted sweets every week. Once one of the line belts broke above me and I was showered in maltesers - never complained. Never had those job benefits again These questions can be answered by everyone- not just one person...lets hear your unusual jobs

These questions can be answered by everyone- not just one person...lets hear your unusual jobs I've often wished that the interview and this or that questions were set up as categories that everybody could answer, so I agree! I would LOVE to work in a chocolate factory. How nice! My most unusual job is probably the one I'm doing now, working in a recording studio making books on tape. But the one that I would NEVER have expected finding myself doing was being a security guard at the university dorms.

I now can't stand the smell of custard, the look of custard, the texture of custard. I'm now in the despatch dept. of the factory where I only get to see the stuff inside a carton.
