Listened to a CD of a king Biscuit Flower hour type thing that someone gave me...complete with advertisements...and remembered what happened a couple years ago...the first time I listened to this CD,...in my car...on the way to work....I forgot it was a CD and when i heard an ad offering $39.00 flights form SF to Denver...to inagurate some new airline route or something....I completely calculated the days off i could take and the custody haggling I could do for a quick ski weekend and family and friend visit in Denver the following month...I got to work...got on the computer and started looking for the 'special fares' before i realized I was listening to an advertisement from 1984....in 2007...and the $39.00 flight to Denver disappeared like a popped balloon!
After the first song on this CD, Ian thanks the audience and gives special greetings to 'Ronnie' and warmly says how nice it is to see him...I'm guessing the gig is in London and the Ronnie is Ronnie Lane....ya think Ronnie lane would bestir himself to go see Tull? I know he was very ill by that time?

I'd just like to say that this is my 48th post.
How did you feel when you composed and published your 48th post?

I'd just like to say that this is my 48th post. How did you feel when you composed and published your 48th post? Quite likely, at the time, to be a feeling of being amongst friends with a common interest. Still feel that way which is good

We'rer adopting a dog named 'Missy' I hope it isn't rhyming slang for 'Pissy'....We learned that Tull calls us 'Billys' for Billy Bunter/Punter....but how did ticket buyers, common folks in the stands, or whatever, get to be called 'punters' in the first place....what is the entomology of 'punter'?

LOL ;D ahh Missy... lovely name - one question is it a puppy? well two questions is it a wee cuddly fluffy little furniture chewing thing and not a great big ugly fierce finger chewing thing? A punter is originally from the betting on horses thing I think A person who bets on a horse is called a punter. I haven't googled but I would hazard a guess it might be from ye old Irish money called a Punt?? and the Irish connection to horse racing??

Did you ever look around, no matter where you are, and imagine it's somewhere else? Tonight is New Years and at midnight I'll be in downtown Calgary with thousands of others and I'm going to imagine it's Jan 1, 17,500BC in Egypt and we've finally decided to go at that big mountain over there and carve a Sphinx out of it. That's what happens when the ice age ends, the ocean rises 400 feet and you have to move somewhere en mass and people feel like creating some massive social project to signal that problems are resolved.
You should see my photos of the mountain they carved the Sphinx out of, before it was touched by chisels. Looked like a giant duck.

Why a duck? I grew up under the 20th street viaduct in Denver...which, in about 1963, when staying up till midnight and thinking about shiny new pennies with 1964 on them would have been the height of adult excitement, was still a smallish place. Tonite I'll be deep asleep by the time 2011 rolls in...work today, work tomorrow...and had my fun last nite...a local band called Rubber Souldiers who play only beatle songs but give them long, twisty jams and eclectic segues and mash ups ( Norweigen Wood back and forth with This Boy, Come Together super psychedelic, Things we said today mixed in with get back...very fun). My daughter took special pride in recognizing 'yellow submarine' from pre-school sing alongs and 'help' from radio daddy singing it on bike rides...

Today is 01/01/2011, or if you remove the slashes and zeros, you have the self-mirroring image 11211.
It looks like a circus tent.

To those of you who tried in vein to log onto the Forum today (Thursday 6 January), it wasn't your computer at fault but a major glitch at Proboards. For info, this is what they posted:
We've been told that our servers are still under attack by a large scale DDoS attack. The NOC is working to block this attack while letting legitimate traffic through.
We apologize for any inconvenience.
and later
Overall forums appear to be loading again with a few intermittent drops. We realize that page loading speeds are not optimal and are working to improve the responsiveness of pages.
This affected all Proboards Forums and Boards but it now seems to have been rectified.
If anyone can tell me what a DDoS attack is, I'd be eternally grateful

What jokes? ;D No I don't think you're a suspect TT The problem affected all proboards so unless you're masquerading under different usernames anywhere else your safe. I suppose it might have messed up the official site which I notice hasn't been updated since the 23 December. Boy is the webmaster going to get his bottom smacked by the headmaster when he finds out.

Here's the latest stunning metal statue in Scotland by the artist Andy Scott who's past offerings have been "Heavy Horses" and "Kelpies" This ones called Arria after a Roman woman... i55.images obliterated by tinypic/z0sxs.jpg[/IMG] "Arria was a woman in ancient Rome. Her husband Caecina Paetus was ordered by the emperor Claudius to commit suicide for his part in a rebellion but was not capable of forcing himself to do so. Arria wrenched the dagger from him and stabbed herself, then returned it to her husband, telling him that it didn't hurt ("Non dolet, Paete!"). Her story was recorded in the letters of Pliny the Younger, who obtained his information from Arria's granddaughter, Fannia." Anyone get a Tull connection out of that?

Anyone know why or could give an opinion on the use of the name Jack in English folklore. Jack - in - the Green Jack Frost Jack O'Lantern Jack in the Beanstalk
Is it really just down to Jack being a common English name?
