Must admit I am very curious about the set list and, especially, the Ryan role. I guess these questions will be answered in early June if not sooner. As far as I remember from last year, the beyond bricks songs the current line up has done includes' Locomotive, Aqualung, My God and, I think, Budapest...and they did Bouree in Montreaux at least...so what else? I'm sure the bestie gigs will have good sized portions of both bricks, right? Why waste all that rehearsal time? I hope thay pull out some real surprises but I'm not betting the house. One or two would be nice like the year the I.A. band played March the Mad Scientist, Just Trying to be and Jeffrey Goes to L. Square.....

Hi all. We are getting good news from the front. ... This year, Ian has provided an interlude in the TaaB2 Tour, with "The Best Of", as we already know. There will be some dates in my country. I can't wait to watch the spectacle, just 'cause I'm extremely curious to know the list of songs, and above all, to know what Ian meant by "The Best Of". Wonderful!! This year i will be able to see another TaaB2, in Zurich, right after the new show, and the Christmas show in UK.

Does this mean Martin dislikes (hates) Florian? Thought provoking. Sort of confirms what we've all been thinking but not actually putting into words - if Martin thought this in 2002 then things must have got really bad between IA and Martin in the subsequent years. No I don't see Martin disliking Florian but I could understand some professional jealousy and perhaps a whimsical thought of "what if". In any case Martin is not going to come out with any verbal dislike of Florian - he's too nice a chap and is happy with what he's doing at the moment.

Now for another TULL take; OH LOOK OUT! ;D www.icenews.is/2013/04/08/jethro-tull-announce-dates-in-iceland/Categorized | Entertainment, Iceland, Music Jethro Tull announce dates in Iceland Posted on 08 April 2013. Tags: concerts in Iceland, harpa, Jethro Tull Fans of British prog-rock group Jethro Tull will again have a chance to see the flute playing maestro when his band performs in Iceland in June. Tickets go on sale on April 10th. In honour of the fortieth anniversary of the release of their seminal album Aqualung, the band have been touring and appearing worldwide in selected appearances. Three dates have been scheduled in Iceland; appearing in Akureyri on June 7th, followed by a concert in the Westman Islands on June 8th and finally at Harpa in Reykjavík on June 9th. The concert will feature a ‘best of selection’ from their 45 year career with well known hits such as Aqualung, Thick as a brick and Locomotive breath, among others. Jethro Tull have previously played in Iceland more than four time, most recently in 2012. But with the members, including founders Ian Anderson and Martin Barre, close to retirement this could be their last appearance. In recent years the band has been replaced on tour by Martin Barre and his band while Anderson announced in 2012 that he planned to release Thick as a Brick 2, largely a solo album. The Iceland tour is part of a promotional tour. and the whirlpool turns you `way off-beam.

Did the google and calculator footwork...best seats in the house and meeting Ian for photo and autograph only $322.00.....not bad...Hong Kong is a pretty rich country and a middle class Tull fan could easily pay that for a memorable night.

Best of Jethro Tull midi.is/concerts/1/7557Jethro Tull‘s Ian Anderson tours Iceland and plays three shows in June Anderson will perform songs from a catalogue that spans the entire 45 year history of Jethro Tull. This concert is simply ‘The Best of Jethro Tull'. Favourites, such as Aqualung, Locomotive Breath, Bouree, Budapest, Living in the Past, and other classics, fill up the ambitious, nostalgic setlist. The three concerts take place in Hof – Akureyri on June 7th, in Höllin - Westman Islands on June 8th, and in Eldborg of Harpa – Reykjavík on June 9th.
As many might remember, Jethro Tull's Ian Anderson played two sold-out shows in Eldborg last year. There, his band performed both of the ‘Thick As A Brick' albums in full. Lately, Ian Anderson has toured the globe with his band playing ‘TAAB' and is booked well into next year.
Jethro Tull/Ian Anderson have performed in Iceland on a handful of occasions before, and shows are usually sold-out on the first day, so don't miss out!
Fans of Jethro Tull are in line for a big musical treat in Iceland as Anderson and his band hope to create an intimate performance. The smaller venues around the country offer the perfect surrounding for that to happen, and then the superb and exquisite Eldborg-hall in Harpa will help in delivering all the finer notes to the audience.

Still no set lists from non-brick shows, right? I believe the set list is partially top secret. Ian wants to surprise everyone with his list. Of course over the years after the Christmas album and before TAAB2, every show could be viewed that way. I think this is part marketing and part musical diversity with so many shows being played almost identical. Last year had some shows without complete TAAB 1&2 because of time restrictions by casinos. Festivals and outdoor venues were also changed to suit the crowd or area. I have no problem with Ian using his music in any way he wishes. Martin can also create his own set list. Whatever gets played will rock! Tull Party all Summer!

There are in many respects some similarities between Mick Abrahams "leaving" the band at the end of 1968 and Martin Barre's present situation but the outcome for both seems to be quite different.
From memory there were quite a few fans of Jethro Tull in December 1968 who thought Mick had received a rough deal but to his credit he immediately got back on the road with his own band and made some rather fine albums but his rather indifferent approach to touring, especially in the States, meant that the potential of Blodwyn Pig never fully materialised and he was never to really build on the success of A Head Rings Out and Getting To This. But to his great credit he kept on performing with what seemed like a carousel of musicians until he left the music business only to be persuaded to get back to playing by Dave Rees, Martin Webb and co at AND. Certainly his support for the UK Conventions was 100% when he could of turned around and said "Nah, I'm not in Tull anymore and I'm not interested".
In Martin's case he appears to to not only enjoying the experience of being his own boss and actively seeking to perform in as many places as he can. I hope he eventually get to tour America and receives the support of fans over there. At the moment I think he's doing the right thing; playing the Jethro Tull music he obviously has high regard for and also performing his own compositions. After all he has every right to play IA's music as his contribution to the Jethro Tull legacy is immense and without his input things musically would have been quite different - I can't imagine Jethro Tull being the "beast" it is today with anyone else on guitar for the last 40 + years or so.
And that's certainly no disrespect to Florian Opahle - he has a great legacy to follow from his predecessors and has done the job exceedingly well in my opinion. And if Martin and Ian never appear on stage together then so be it; as someone mentioned here a few months ago, and I paraphrase, "what a journey it's been and thanks for all the music".

Hongkie Town Still here, just not as often Ian Anderson Plays the Very Best of Jethro Tull coming to Hong Kong hongkietown.com/2013/05/ian-anderson-plays-the-very-best-of-jethro-tull-coming-to-hong-kong.htmlWell, for all intensive purposes, Ian Anderson is Jethro Tull. Originally formed in 1967, Jethro Tull’s music has combined elements of blues, folk, jazz and progressive rock. Their best known albums include Aqualung and Thick as a Brick. (Guitarist Martin Barre was with the group from 1969 onwards, but as of 2011 Tull no longer seems to be a going concern.) Now lead singer/songwriter/flutist Ian Anderson is including a stop in Hong Kong on June 24th on his current world tour. It’s his first concert in Hong Kong in 20 years. Top “regular” ticket price is $980, but the promoters have put together some special VIP packages that include the chance to meet and be photographed with Ian Anderson backstage before the concert starts. I’m informed that these packages, which top out at just under $2,500, are almost sold out. I’ve been a Jethro Tull fan since their first album (which made a huge splash on FM radio in New York when it was released) but I’ve never seen them live so going to this show crosses another item off my bucket list. All of that aside, here’s a little tale of how things work in Hong Kong. One day about two weeks ago, I’m standing outside the building where I work (on Lockhart Road) having a smoke. This woman comes walking by, looks at me, comes up to me and asks, “Excuse me, do you live in Hong Kong?” I thought she was a tourist and was going to ask me for directions. Instead, she reached into her bag and handed me a flyer for the concert. Before she could walk away I asked her, “Excuse me, are you associated with the promoters of the show?” She told me she was, so I asked for her card. As soon as I got back to my desk, I sent her an email with links to my portfolio and asking if I could get a media pass to photograph the concert. I didn’t hear anything for a week and I figured, okay, that’s that, but then this week I received an email from her husband. No, it didn’t say “leave my wife alone you xxx,” it said that he liked my portfolio and that he wanted to meet to discuss my request. So I’ve now been hired to shoot the backstage stuff as well as photograph the concert, and I’m thrilled. The promoters are a new company called Euro Asia Entertainment and this is the first show they’re producing in Hong Kong. They seem to be quite well connected on the international music scene and mentioned to me some of the other acts they plan to bring to Hong Kong in the future. I’m not free to share any names but let’s just say that if things work out, this Ian Anderson show will be the tip of the iceberg. Either way, I’m looking forward to the concert. -Spike
