I find it really interesting to find links with band members and other bands. You know the sort of thing that the trash papers/mags do to link up who's went out with who. TEAR GASGlasgow set up (a bit before my time) they were Ted McKenna, drums, Chris Glenn, bass, Zal Cleminson, guitar and David Batchelor, vocals who went on to be Sensational Alex Harvey Band ( except Batchelor ) They played with Tull in US tour 1975 CHRIS GLENN a bassist also played with JADE - Frankie Miller (genius) and ...Clive Bunker ZAL CLEMINSON - great guitarist still playing and looking great for his age - formed Tandoori Cassette with ..Barriemore Barlow Here's a quote from Zal ...re Tull tour " My classic SAHB gear was a ’60s Gibson SG, a Marshall 100-watt head through a Vox Beatles cabinet, and no effects. Everything was stolen in Miami while touring with Jethro Tull, so I replaced it with a 100-watt Sunn stack and a Gibson Firebird." ZAL CLEMINSON then i32.images obliterated by tinypic/2wnvb4i.gif[/IMG] NOW (age 60) i27.images obliterated by tinypic/vnd02g.jpg[/IMG]

I know Alex Harvey/SAHB covered the song and I now see the connection. Thanks nonrabbit.

Great Info! Am I the only one who had always thought that Zal Cleminson should collaborate with the equally cooly named Tuli Kupfenberg of The Fugs?

Here's another strange link - some of you may know. BRIAN PROTHEROE i25.images obliterated by tinypic/10qdqhi.jpg[/IMG] This is currently for sale on ebay for £20 apparently it's a rare record out of print and made in Denmark . It also has this little nugget; " Impossible to find out of print CD album from ex Albion band member and actor singer/songwriter BRIAN PROTHEROE, influenced more by Pop than folk on this solo CD, with Simon Philips Dale Newman and even a short appearance of Ian Anderson and Barlow from JETHRO TULL on track 4, this CD wich was only released and printed in the Netherlands on the small bankrupt Basta label is in MINT condition, with lyrics and liner notes " TRACK 4 "Under the Greenwood Tree" Would have loved to have found it on utube but alas not there however if anyone is wondering who Brian Protheroe is this might ring a bell... i31.images obliterated by tinypic/xogqc7.gif[/IMG] Cool bloke.

Well blow me down with a feather!! I've found a link right on my doorstep (almost) quite by chance. There is an old man who lives near me, he rides to Asda (Wal Mart) on his bike, he wears shorts all year long ( in Fermanagh weather!) he has a long white flowing beard. He is a common sight in the town and I often stand behind him in the queue in the supermarket. I've never spoken to him (strange for me) He goes about his business and I've never seen him talking to anyone in short a bit of a character. He was once however barred from the local library for dancing over enthusiastically to music on his headphones! ;D At work today we were talking about him and I was informed by a young music dude that this man is none other than Mick Softley the musician. He was at the fore front of British Folk and influenced and worked with Dylan and Donovan amongst many. Terrific voice and unique character with many many stories to tell. The bloke at work said that he was also at Woodstock but I'll ask him that myself when I pluck up the courage to tap his shoulder (and ask him along to Cropredy next year )! en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mick_Softleyi31.images obliterated by tinypic/98sk0p.jpg[/IMG] from the album Sunrise

From wikipedia: He moved to County Fermanagh, Northern Ireland in 1984, eventually settling in Enniskillen where he still lives. He writes poetry and is a well recognised character in the town. He also performs occasionally at the Belfast Folk Festival.I recall having a Donovan EP with Mick Softley's "The War Drags On" which was one of the first songs I taught myself how to play on my first acoustic guitar. Worth a Q & A if he ever met IA or any other members of Tull - I live in hope

Apparently he is right into gardening now and wrote a song about tomatoes

Wow! He really rips Ian in this piece. How Ian is a real prick to everyone, and the only reason musicians play w/ him is for the money. Good, honest read.

This band ..Bakerloo or originally the Bakerloo Blues line were Dave Clempson,Terry Poole and Keith Baker.
"The music of Bakerloo sounds like a cross between Cream and Mick Abrahams era Jethro Tull sans Ian Anderson's flute."
The band was short lived - formed in 1968 split up Summer 69 however apart from the bluesy early Tull sound they also supported Tull at the Marquee Club on 26/11/68 - Tulls last gig at the Marquee.

Are there any past Tull members or Tull influences that have not yet received recognition? Who are the "fifth Beatle" Tullies?

Are there any past Tull members or Tull influences that have not yet received recognition? Who are the "fifth Beatle" Tullies? Three names come to mind for the "5th Tullie": Recording engineers Robin Black and Andy Johns, and the man who is a legend in Tull circles, Kenny Wylie who although not a musician with the band, served IA well for many years as tour manager, lighting engineer, chauffeur, general factotum and preventer of unwelcomed guests post concert.

Mick Softley suffered a brain haemorrhage a few weeks ago, is still in hospital and making a slow recovery. A friend of mine has started a facebook page for Mick and his music. Mick Softley, on his own behest, decided to drop out of the music business yoinks ago however his songs and albums remain in circulation and have become collectors items. The facebook page has uncovered musicians who worked alongside him in the past and shared his wild and wonderful travels en-gb.facebook.com/pages/Mick-Softley/181116921931702?v=infoGet well soon Mick
