The 2008 Itullians convention will take place on October 18th at Teatro Comunale di Alessandria. Full details...if you can read Italian....at www.itullians.com/Seems that special guests are to be Glenn Cornick, Dave Pegg, Mick Abrahams, Jon Noyce and some bloke called...Ian Anderson! Not a bad line up at all! Can we have one over here too?!

yeah, there has been a couple as far as I know, probably more. Not for a while though. I went to the last one and that was I think '96 so we are definitely overdue!
Great day it was too. IA was there with Andy Giddings & Jon Noyce being very sheepish new boys! John Evans was there too but didn't play, David Palmer did a little solo spot, Mick Abrahams played with Blodwyn Pig & Clive Bunker played with Solstice and I think just about everyone played with everyone else. (If I'd have not drunk so much beer on the day I could be more specific but I would have not have had as much fun!)

Obviously happy to see any of the formers show up, and delirious that the headmaster will make himself available for yet another convention, had Tull maintained their seventies popularity, I believe it is a safe bet that none of these wonderful fan fests since about 90 could have occured, or at least not with any inference that IA would be there. Tull is at the perfect level of popularity in some respects over the past 25 years.

Indeed, and I must say it's extremely cool of IA to do these events. I know we do all like to have a little moan every now and again about the Tull site and lack of new material etc etc but credit where it's due and big kudos to the guvnor for treating the Italian fans to this show and making it a really special event.
And ditto to the other ex Tull guys taking part too of course!

Has there ever been a UK Tull convention? UK Jethro Tull Conventions. There have been six Tull Conventions and very briefly these are the details. The first was held at a small church hall in Hillingdon on the outskirts of west London in August 1989. This was organised by Graham Smith and myself and was a small gathering of around 200 fans just to see what the response would be. There was no “guest” but we were visited by Dave Pegg, Maartin Allcock and Kenny Wylie and we managed to get a pre-release cassette of “Rock Island” which was played throughout the day. The usual convention fare of stalls, a quiz and music was included and was a successful day and we broke even as far as money was concerned. We were able to send a cheque for £117 to the National Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Children which was the charity chosen by us. Ian Anderson wrote to us thanking all of us for the interest in the band and giving his support for the venture also apologising that he wouldn’t be there as he was on holiday. The second convention was held at Milton Keynes in September 1990. Building on the success of the previous one we had the usual things on offer and were also able to have a great many more fans present. We expanded the convention “committee” which enabled us to spread the work load somewhat and decided to have live music as the Woughton Centre had a stage, lighting and a p.a. system. The highlights were a live 20 minute set in the afternoon with Maartin Allcock, Clive Bunker, Mick Abrahams and Ian Anderson which I believe was the precursor of the acoustic sets which the band did in concert on later tours. We also had Jeffrey Hammond Hammond and John Evans present who appeared briefly on stage but did not play. In the evening there was a concert featuring the Tull tribute band Seismic Ring and Blodwyn Pig. This event raised £312 for the NSPCC. The third was held Feltham in Middlesex in August 1991. As on previous occasions we had stalls, videos, a master quiz, a fancy dress competition, an auction and live music. The live entertainment was provided by Mick Abrahams who did an acoustic set in the afternoon, and an evening concert by Martin Carter from Seismic Ring and a fully blown Blodwyn Pig. As with the two previous conventions it was extremely well attended and we were able to donate £473 to the NSPCC. The fourth convention was back at the Woughton Centre in Milton Keynes in July 1992. The “committee” had expanded with the addition of a couple more people and this time we were graced by the presence of Martin Barre who brought his Summer Band to the event. The evening concert also included Elaine Morgan and her band, who had included IA‘s “Home” on one of their first commercial record/cassette releases. Some of the evening concert by The Summer Band was included on their first CD release. And lest I forget, dear old Mick Abrahams did an afternoon set. It should be mentioned that he supported the Convention almost from day one and it is to his great credit that they were the success they were. This time £356 went to the NSPCC. The fifth convention was held at the Northwick Theatre in Worcester in October 1994. The usual attractions were on offer, including one or two traders from overseas, Mick Abrahams donated an acoustic guitar to the charity raffle and the evening concert featured Seismic Ring, Vikki Clayton, Mick with Blodwyn Pig and The Martin Barre band. The NSPCC this time benefited to the tune of £500 and I remember thinking at the time “how do we follow this” bearing in mind we had had quite a few past and present member of Tull perform for us at this and other conventions. The sixth convention was at the Woodville Halls in Gravesend, Kent in November 1996. My paper documentation from the event shows that apart from the stalls, videos, etc., on show, the performers advertised included Seismic Ring, Wild Turkey, John Evans and David Palmer, Solstice and Blodwyn Pig. Ian Anderson, Jon Noyce and Andy Giddings turned up and played both as a trio and with other artists. This time we raised around £1600 for charity which was split 50/50 between the NSPCC and Lupus UK. That is (very) briefly a run-down of the 6 UK Conventions. Those involved in the organising of them included, Mark Collins, Graham Smith, Kevin & Caroline Collins, Adrian Tyte, Graham Maisey, Dave Rees, Gerry Spiers, Ian Burgess, Martin Webb, Keith Burchett, Martin Allen and Terry Coates. My apologies go to anyone I’ve unintentionally omitted and thanks must go to all the stall holders, performers and special guests who were present, especially to Kenny Wylie and Mick Abrahams who both supported us from day one. Thanks everyone. I'd love to help out at any further conventions but my current lack of mobility due to a stroke means I can't. However, there's nothing stopping anyone else

Thank you Maddog that was useful information about past conventions. Perhaps an encouragement to someone in Britain to get moving on the next overdue one. I'll be glad to bring along the Irish contingent of Tull fans, and btw hello from Dublin to all true believers, I've just this minute joined the board.
